      • Apologies if this has already been mentioned on here but was looking through the sky request a bets and came across one I liked the look of. Thomas Darby, Emitom, Klassical Dream and Defi de Seuil all to place any race 80-1.

They look like attractive bets but every year when I go back and review what I've done ante post, I've found to my detriment that there have been far too many bets like this chipping away at my profit (or adding to my losses ). The chances all 4 make it to the festival fit and well, let alone place, are unlikely. My advice, particularly for horses like Thomas Darby and Emitom that are still bigger prices, would be to get them onside in doubles or singles, without taking larger priced more risky acca's. Thomas Darby (arkle) & Emitom (stayers) is 883/1, so you'd get over 20/1+ on a place.

          • Agree with Charlie, I do up to trebles on the RAB but even then I know I am against it, so use them for free bets only.

I think it was Archie (apologies if not) that worked out about 6/4 for a horse to make it to the festival, not sure if this was used with logic or his own feeling (I can't remember, but I use it anyway), and on that basis you'd be getting 38/1 for the above four horses just to make it to the festival.

            • Charlie , I wish you would start up a bookies offering place terms on the combined win odds divided by the place element

Haha i meant to type 20/1+ on a place. 200/1 would be nice wouldn't it.

                      • That peterboro chase bonus they've announced might force one or two horses down a different route than anticipated, especially if ground is extreme at ascot.

                            • I have decided to add MIDNIGHT SHADOW at 27.5/1 (boosted) to my antepost portfolio with WH ‘Any Festival Race’.

I added him to the Arkle market a month ago, but the price didn’t interest me, as he could have wider options as a novice chaser or back over hurdles.

He is a classy hurdler, OR 155 and possibly overlooked in the early Festival discussions.

In his Novice Hurdle season he finished by winning the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr, off 134, with his rating rising to 140 prior to last season.

After a couple of runs over 2M including the Greatwood Hurdle, his switch to 2&1/2M brought a sharp change of fortune with a C2 Handicap Win at Aintree getting 2lb from Ch’tibello and a win by over a length off 141.

Next time out at Cheltenham in the Grade 2 Relkeel Hurdle over 2&1/2M he beat horses rated higher to win by 2&1/4L.

His run in The Stayers Hurdle (as a fancied 17/2 shot) at Cheltenham was a trip too far, and he ran out of steam coming into the straight.

I’m looking forward to him jumping a fence, after both Hurdle wins last season the trainer spoke in terms of him making a chaser, and at the Any Race price available it seems a good choice to have him onside.

If fences don’t quite work out he could do a William Henry and come back for the Coral Hurdle. His Relkeel Win was impressive over a similar trip.

                              • I like that bet. Especially if he's going chasing.
could run in numerous races too, like you say.
