V Pendleton is a decent amateur to follow. Just sits on them so if they manage to place remotely well, you know you can punt the bollocks off it at a big price the following year when someone who knows what they're doing is onboard.

Agree but she’s a cyclist and I am probably alone on this but what she achieved in such a short space of time was quite remarkable IMO... typical of proper world class achievers. Given that challenge and I would have fallen off in the parade ring.

I would like to see the Amateurs and Conditionals having to qualify to be able to ride in some way, even the veterans of the sport. Perhaps through a series of races through the season, and the outcome is a pool of riders that are available to be jocked up.
The sport definitely needs amateurs, they are vital for PtP, schooling, training etc but just not at the Cheltenham festival. I think the Festival has outgrown it and the amateur races at the Festival are the weakest races from punting perspective because of the small pool of good jockeys available. So many better horses would be aimed at the NHC & Kim Muir by owners & trainers if they weren’t amateur because they guarantee they’d have their jockeys on board.

I like the qualification idea for amateurs, like they do in the golf championship comps like the masters, at then the amateurs would be their on merit and not because they were available

Also very happy to see Davy on any horse, particularly in the handicaps.

Not a big fan of Charlie Deutsch though I'm afraid.

Really liked how he set off in the front line but then quickly realised the pace was too hot so backed off.

Conditional jockey Eoin Walsh is well worth his 5lb claim in my book.

He rode a cracking race on 50-1 shot Trainwreck for Henry DB to finish 4th in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown last week.

Rachael has been beaten on the same horse by 58l, 69l and 53l in her last three runs on him. And in the race before that, Robbie Power was 50l adrift.

In between those lacklustre efforts Walsh was beaten a head in second in the 24-runner 76k Leopardstown Handicap Chase last February .

And when the pair were reunited at Xmas in the 22-runner 71k Paddy Power race, Walsh had Trainwreck beautifully positioned throughout the race in a very impressive quietly assured display.

I first noticed him in the Pertemps last March when he gave Tout et Permis a cracking ride to finish third behind SDB and The Storyteller.

Of course, we all remember him for you-know-who's final flight fall in the Martin Pipe - but Walsh had the horse perfectly placed throughout the race and was mounting his challenge at exactly the right time. Very difficult to blame him for the fall and of course our pal also unshipped Davy when coming to win a race at Fairyhouse.

Gordon had obviously seen some talent in Walsh to give him the ride.

He also rode Fakir d'Alene on his hurdling debut for Gordon at Kilbeggan - beaten a head by Oscar Tyne.

But they don't seem to have teamed up since then.

Maybe someone to keep an eye on in the handicap hurdles and Martin Pipe at The Festival.

If we are talking conditionals i really like Oakley Brown who started on the flat, had a couple of runs for A.King in bumpers when able to claim 10lbs! before going over to Ireland for Joseph. Nice value for 7lbs imo and often have a look for when he's on a horse for the first time taking it off.
