I was at that game. I’ve never been wetter at a football match. Stripped down to my pants for the long drive back and could still wring water out of my clothes at home even after rotating them over the heater for 4 hours.

Craigy, I very much appreciate your backing in the opening match.

But I must warn you I'll be carrying a lot of condition after Christmas despite my intention to spend four days altitude training in the attic once the 5-day decs are out.

And its highly likely I will also face being gelded as soon as I emerge from the attic.

I caught a glimpse of Mrs NC200's computer screen last night - she was on Amazon ordering the biggest butcher's knife I've ever seen in my life.

Well now I'm feeling some pressure looks like you've got more faith in me than I have!

Presumably you weren't around for this:

            4th October 1972
County 2 (Russell, Spratt[pen]) West Ham 1 (Best)
            Att: 13410

            From a West Ham site:
Long before Iain Dowie's infamous 1996 own goal, West Ham were dumped out of the League Cup by fourth division Hatters on an equally memorable (for them, at least) night. Clyde Best's goal restored parity after the home side had taken an early lead through Russell but a penalty on the stroke of half time - conceded by John McDowell - gives County a famous victory.

I'd been working in London for a couple of years by then and came up for the game on the West Ham special train with a couple of West Ham supporting friends. It was rowdy on the way up and very quiet going back south.

Just been reminded by Facebook that it's 24 years ago to the day. Oddly enough it's 24 days until the next joust.

                • Excellent stuff everyone - writing everyone’s bets down. Will put the bets into sections (outright, groups, week 1, week 2) after Christmas for easy reading.

Glad both comps are going down well and nobody has objected to my wild pricing. Can you tell I’m not a bookie?

Now, how do I fiddle the scoring ?

Think I may have cocked up Weeks 1 and 2, am I right in thinking I should have posted at least two selections for each week ?

Originally - yes. But I’m going to let 1 selection be ok for the first couple of weeks.

                      • After the first couple of weeks, then I’ll make it so you must post 2 selections minimum for the Gameweek bets. But for now, as quite a few have only selected one poster for a Gameweek bet, I’ll say 1 is ok with a view to that being changed to 2+ for Gameweeks 3 onwards.

I was thinking the other day actually.. after every 2 Gameweeks (basically after a weekends racing), I’ll update the outright market and groups. From Saturday mornings til Sunday nights, the markets will be suspended and then I’ll reopen them with adjusted odds.

I feel the craic of seeing one of the big dogs of the comp out to 100/1+ after losing their first two group games might be a good laugh.
