Jogged up the stairs earlier and did 3 x 10s rounds of naked shadow boxing infront of the bathroom mirror. In the best shape i've been in since my chocolate hobnob relapse. Heard on the grapevine FatCatShat has been making mad gains and i'm sure there's plenty of other contenders who've been putting serious programmes together too. If you want a crack and you're not in my group then just make sure you're on it and i'm sure we'll get chance to go toe to toe in the knockout stages. I've been building for this day my whole life, man and boy, i'm here to win, i'm ready to put it all on the line.
9 days to go. Lets get ready to rrrruuuuuuuummmmbbbbblllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

We are now at the five day declaration stage for the competition and it looks as if all “runners” stand their ground, however we do have a couple of reserves plus myself in the event there are any last minute withdrawals.
Please note on any one Match Day, whilst I plan to stick to the schedule wherever possible, the nominated meeting is subject to change and may be an Irish meeting if all UK mainland racing is off. The Welsh Grand National meeting has also been rescheduled for Jan 9th which may prove to be a more competitive affair than the scheduled Kempton meeting. What I am planning is that as soon as the 48 hour declarations are made late morning, and taking into account the size of fields (more runners the better), the going and predicted weather etc, I will confirm the nominated meeting. Bear in mind though we may need to change the meeting at short notice if the nominated one is abandoned. Be wary also of any inspections on the morning of the meeting being put back two or three times “to give the meeting a chance” which would only leave a small window to post selections if you haven’t already done so or need to do so again if the original meeting is abandoned. Having said all that however, if the nominated meeting looks likely to go ahead I would appreciate selections being posted as soon as possible on the day (or evening before) and remember if a selection is a NR or withdrawn at the start, no points are scored so it is in your interest to nominate reserves!
Full competition rules can be found on Page 1, #2, however these are the rules regarding the Group Stage.
Each competitor chooses one selection per race at the nominated meeting (plus reserves if you wish). Selections are to be posted by start of first race at the nominated meeting. No late entries, additions, amendments or substitutions are allowed once the meeting has started. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Scoring is as follows
As regards selections for each race in a match, 5 points awarded for a winner, 3 points for a second, and 1 point for a third, regardless of number of runners. In the event of a dead heat for first place, both horses receive 4 points, in the event of a dead heat for second place, both horses score 2 points. Think of these points as “points scored” and the points scored by the opponent as “points against”.
As regards each match in the Group Stage, 3 points will be awarded for a win, one point for a draw. League tables will be posted shortly after each meeting, hopefully within the hour.
Selections must be named, no just putting fav or similar. If a player fails to post selections, posts selections for the wrong meeting or just puts “Fav” or any other generalisation their opponent will receive a walkover and will be awarded the match. In that scenario the other player will receive the appropriate points for a win and the score will be adjudged to have been 18-15 for a seven race card, or 15-12 for a six race card. However if both players in a match fail to post, the score for both players will be adjudged to be 0-18.

Finally a few words about match days. Assuming I have had enough time to enter ALL selections into the competition spreadsheet before the first race (and that depends on you, the players) I will be posting the latest scores after each race hopefully leaving time for a little banter between races. Once the meeting is completed I will be posting the league tables as soon as possible.
On the first two weekends when there are matches on two successive days, if you plan on posting selections the evening before I would ask you to hold off until after I have posted the league tables to ensure the competition flows properly. Please do not edit a post if you want to change something as I won’t be scrolling back once your selections are recorded, kindly quote your original post and note the changes.
Finally I would ask players complete their five matches in the Group Stages even if your chance of progressing in the competition has gone, as the points difference in all matches can affect who qualifies for the knock out stage and whether as winner or runner up which in turn dictates who they play in the knockout stage.
If you have any problems posting, you can email me your selections at the following :

Middle_Of_March is, I believe, suspending bets in his sister competition from the start of racing on Match Day 1 until after the league tables are posted on Match Day 2, ditto with Match Days 3 and 4, when the market will be re-opened with any adjusted odds.
Good luck everyone. The owls are not what they seem

Whilst not casting aspersions on anyone, one of the players has pointed out that if a player only needed a draw to qualify at the expense of another, all they would have to do is wait for that player to post their selections and then copy them. I've not had that happen in previous years on other forums with this type of competition but if anyone wishes, and as advised above, they can post their selections for any Match Day to me via private message or to the email address in post #156.The owls are not what they seem
