Sound Odin, that does make sense!

    • We must all be exuding intelligence considering this thread hasn't seen any action since April. Well let's change that....why are hurdles called hurdles when they look more like fences, and why are fences called fences when they look more like hedges?

Love a lunchtime pint at work.

One that I can't get head around is when people say for a poor jumper of a hurdle, that 'they are just getting in his way .. he'll be better for a fence'

            Dead on!

            • When punters placing multipes of doubles / trebles

              say staking ?10

doing 3 x ?2 doubles and 1 x ?4 treble ... makes no sense to me! Surely you'd be better having more on the doubles ....

Be a ?2.50 trixie for me

If they all come in and you've got so little on the treble be absolutely gutted

Without fact checking you this sounds plausible, but I'm not buying the fence one!

Yeah that sounds like an excuse/desperation to me

                      • Can an owner refuse to have a certain jockey ride their horses? And has this happened before?

This is purely in relation to Patrick, I find myself throwing the book away when I see he's jocked. It's nothing personal, I just feel he does zero homework on his rides and just wings it.

They certainly can - I do think it has happened…,just can’t recall the specific case

More likely owners retain their own jockeys

I agree on PM, but hard one to discuss with Willie..,,I like many would insist on Paul or Danny

You don't with Willie unless you want to move stables. The remark about Patrick is just wrong as well. Apart from knowing the horses from the training ground, he will be thoroughly briefed by Willie. He also generally jogs a circuit of the course to check out the ground.

Glad to hear it's wrong, as that's how it comes across from a far

Its a shame that in my opinion he's poor enough to consider cashing out bets due to the jockey bookings.
