I suppose my logic is that in France they seem to throw them over hurdles straight away. Past winners such as Douvan, Vautour, Klassical Dream started out that way. French bumpers also tend to be over shorter usually 1m4f, both IET and IEP were over 1m4f.
Buveur D’Air did have his 2 main supreme rivals step out of the way but he obviously progressed to win 2 champions, but my theory is there more growing to do in the bumper runners than the hurdlers, I’m not sure but it’s something I’m considering.
Espoir as impressive as he was the race kind of fell apart and we never got the chance to see him do it again.
epatante definitely improved significantly for the extra year.
I think this is probably also backed up by the coral cup winners.
DDS won probably a below average triump but he definitely progressed for turning 6.
Fair enough. So you're saying there's a negative in their french trainers bothering with bumpers. Interesting I guess. But I'm not having it as a negative for IEP
And I certainly can't see how it's a negative for GDM who's french bumper form can surely be forgotten based on hurdles and chase form since...

More interesting and thought provoking stuff. Again thanks. Anything else you’ve got in the pipeline I’d love to hear.

I suppose regarding GDM I’m looking for an excuse to take on a horse who’s 6/5 and 1/8 over fences.
No, re travel from Ireland. This is not a week/10 day extreme temperature event. It's a day or 2, coupled with March daytime temperatures to help thaw. No way there'll be any ferry cancellations. It's not even a named storm which in these days, should tell you all you need to know about it.
On one of the previews, I think it was Nico de Bonville who said they'd brought forward by a few days only, final work programmes for horses because of the weather forecast.
Anyone know if jockeys on the BHA racecards have actually been selected by connections for that race?
I see this being discussed elsewhere and was under the impression they had been also but someone here will know the answer.
If it's the same as in Ireland, it is typically the jockey's agent who will 'jock' them up in advance of the day of declaration. This is normally after some discussion with the trainer but is subject to change all the way up to noon on the day of declaration (two hours after the horses are declared) when final jockey declarations have to be made. Ultimately, it's the trainers decision, often (well..sometimes) after discussion with the owner and, of course, subject to any retainers.

This is important.
Don’t be fooled into thinking because a jockey is shown for a horse that they’re definite runners, this assumption has cost me plenty in the past…

Thanks for the reply. Just what I was looking for.
Odd that the jockeys agents are able to do that on the BHA site imo. But what do I know and what about the BHA isn't odd
Assume it must be a good sign in most cases though. An obvious example being Blackmore currently shown as jocked up on Honeysuckle in the Mares and not the Champion Hurdle. Someone has deliberately done that, even if it is her agent.
On the BHA Decs page what do the H,N,S numbers signify?
Under Jonbon in the manifesto for example codes are as follows - H:369 N:746 S:29
H and S are hurdles and steeple chase (days since run) - it's been about a year since JB ran under hurdles but will be about a month since the Arkle. By deduction, I'm assuming N is days since bumper run, which would have happened the year before.
