Now the weights have been released, are they 100% set? Using Boodles as an example, Mctigue carries 11-12, and is rated 6lbs higher than the next highest. If Mctigue is now withdrawn, does the next highest move up to carry 11-12 and everyone else carries 6lb more? Or does the highest weight becomes 11-5 and everyone else carries the weights stated?
appreciate this is probably a silly question (hence posted in here) and I imagine until final declarations the weights can move if horses are withdrawn, but keen to check!

In terms laying off your stake on BEX if you had 15pts staked you have the option of pay out or liability on BEX.
How does the math workout if you want to lay off your 15pts?
Example you have 15 pts staked at 26 and the price now is 4.
Can someone educate me on how to cover my stake so I have basically a free bet?

Here's another question related to hedging.
Let's say I've got a tasty looking fourfold, but leg 3 is a real liability.
If legs 1 & 2 win, what could I do to lock in some profit or break even before Leg 3 runs?
In an ideal world, leg 4 would be the iffy selection, in which case I'd just lay that selection on the exchange to my desired level (presuming legs 1-3 won) to guarantee some profit, but with it being leg 3 that is dodgey, I cannot do this, as there is no guarantee leg 4 will win and then I've lost the original bet and additionally and more importantly, the larger lay bet on leg 3.
Any pearls of wisdom on how to tackle this?
TIA

There's not much you can do to be honest. If the bets actually worth anything and leg 1 and 2 have already won then you should be able to lay leg 3 (and 4 if it got that far), but you'd obviously be losing a fair amount of the returns.
It's hard without context but if leg 3 is a no hoper and now a much bigger priced than you've backed then the bet is probably fairly worthless in terms of attempting to trade isn't it. Even if the other three legs now look certs!
That's your least risky strategy if you like. Otherwise you're looking at backing more horses and potentially increasing any loss.

Thanks Old Vic and Benjy23 for your comments. Lesson here is to do doubles, trebles, yankees in the future!
For context the horses are Con Hill, Gaillard Du Mensil, Flooring Porter and GDC, for a 700 point return (backed at start of August) so the bet is by no means dead in the water, but I need a miracle for Flooring to return to form given how this season has gone for him.
If FP shortens between now and the Stayers, and legs 1 & 2 win, I'll look to lay leg 3, and if FP wins, I'll lay leg 4, but like you say, you're waving goodbye to a large proportion of any potential winnings.Last edited by On The Fringe; 4 March 2023, 08:04 AM.
