          • As someone who doesn't bet I don't take a lot of notice of the weight a horse carries. I was surprised to hear On Luck on Sunday at the weekend Nick Luck state that horses always carry 6lbs extra than the weight printed in the racecard or wherever. Why is this ? Is it the weight of the tack, extra equipment or for another reason ?

I believe it's for jockey health. There was a study not so long ago (I think) saying they were dangerously underweight because in general they are getting taller so an extra 3lb(?) Was brought in to account for this. They then added a couple of lbs because the jockeys couldn't use the saunas through covid

Stupid comment alert……logically I would have thought that would help larger horses versus the smaller horses.

The extra weight? If so I'd agree, but like it or loathe it, the impact on humans (i.e. the dangers of being underweight for a prolonged period of time) is deemed more important than the impact on animals/competitiveness of races in situations like this

                    • What do we expect from the Mullins horses this weekend? Do we think they will be short of fitness to the extent that it's really noticeable (e.g. he has very few winners) or just to the extent that he has less winners than we might expect based on form because his horses will improve through the season? I can't help but think there could be some really good opportunities to find some bigger priced winners against his favourites?

This shouldn’t be in the “stupid questions” thread as it isn’t one, it’s a valid point. I think the Skelton runners in particular will serve it up to the Mullins favs with ground and fitness on their side. That said the prices for his runners aren’t huge either.

They are 2 weeks behind according to Patrick so I'm expecting a couple of high profile flops

Il be looking to see how the likes of sir gerhard, kilcruit, ferny, appreciate it jump as much as whether they win

Some of them will surely come on massively for the run

Agree. Fully expecting several to come up short/Disappoint including a few big guns. Getting a run though is the most important thing. Hoping the weather is kind !

                            • At this stage it may see a lot of non runners looking at the forecast. Next to no rain in Dublin forecast, some showers a couple of days for Cork but nothing torrential at present.

Unless plenty watering takes place we won’t see them all I wouldn’t have thought.

….I’m in North West & what we get, Dublin usually gets. There’s been very heavy rain here overnight & it’s still quite bad now, I expect some of that will have fallen on Ireland.
