Many thanks for the responses! All makes sense. I wrongly assumed a novice meant they hadn’t competed at all over that discipline before the season, not that they hadn’t won. On that basis, I assume sky pirate will be a lot more experienced than most of his rivals if he opts for the GA then which strikes me as a big positive, although I suppose on the flip side he’s more exposed to the handicapper

Another consideration with younger horses is to consider where they’re bred, French bred NH horses are trained to race much earlier than their UK/Ire counterparts, so a 4yo joining a trainer in UK/Ire will have been in (race) training for a while longer and may well have had many races already.
Good luck

Paul Nicholls does it regularly at wincanton,
he also runs an interesting one, a couple of weeks before the Adonis to work out triumph/ fred winter.https://scooby91horseracingtips.com/

Re-creating race conditions is probably a stretch too far though, I doubt any Clerk would allow a dozen or more horses galloping at the same time, similarly I doubt any trainer would request such given the long term need for relationships/collaboration...

On most desktops (Windows 10 in particular) there is a snipping tool which enables you to "snip" an image from your screen and then you can paste it where you like. I don't seem to be able to paste into a post. Does anyone know how to do that? I've tried saving as a PNG file and uploading from my desktop (not as convenient as a simple Ctrl+V) but that doesn't work either (it says link missing).
Just tried PDF file but couldn't load that as there is a size limit of 19.5 KB. That seems very small
