  • Serious question and most likely seriously stupid but can a novice hurdler who has ran 3 times and still runs a bit green lose his greeness at home before his 4th run or do horses only lose greeness on the track? Just thinking about a horse like Mighty Potter for example. Thanks

      Could happen at any time.

        • It's usually a sign that they're mentally immature. The greenness is often a combination of the noise of the commentary, and the noise and movement of the crowd, plus not really knowing what it's supposed to do when it's racing or going to win its race.

Experience is generally the cure. Going back racing a second time is usually enough, but not always. Some are just as thick as pig shit, or sometimes the complete opposite and want to know everything that's going on.

          • Also worth bearing in mind it might be a quirk rather than greenness which is rarely ironed out through experience.

            • Watching all these handicap entries being played out, is there a period, however short, where only those who have access to the BHA site, presumambly owners, have access to entries - whereas us mere mortals have to wait 30 minutes or an hour or so?

Its a fucking shambles. Will be waiting for some lad with a highlighter in two weeks or so to tell us what's entered and declared.

It's 2.30 in the afternoon and us mere mortals are waiting over 2 and half hours already to get official lists. In the meantime, owners and bookmakers probably have that info to hand. It's not good enough if you ask me.

                    • Certainly not good, and not very transparent. Oh, racing , you continue to shoot yourself in the foot, don't you?

                      • So handicap weights are released tomorrow, firstly, does that mean they are compiled today? And if so, are they based on form up to the Sunday, so yesterday?

Just asking in the case of Rightplacerightime, who runs today, currently 130, if he wins today does he get a mandatory 5lb penalty, or will he be re-assessed? As his run falls close to the release of the weights, and I imagine they won't have too much time to assess his performance.

Deadline was yesterday and anything today onwards is a oen iirc. Are weights still out by original deadline even tho entries pushed back a day?

Yeah that's Paul Ferguson I think, still the quickest and most efficient way of getting the weights on release day is that highlighter...

Used to be Andrew Smith with the highlighters, but he’s had them taken off him
