It does depend on the situation but I'd say generally, the higher the profile of the horse, the quicker you need to act.

In my experience, you're lucky if you can act quick enough to cash out a bet on a big injury announcement.

Experience of last season is if there's even the slightest whiff of an injury issue, you need a time machine to cash out with 365.

Not really, they're no different from the Cotswold Chase (as a Gold Cup trial) or a Kingwell hurdle (as a Champion hurdle trial), they are graded races in their own right that carry good pots and there's no obligation to progress to the 'big' race from the trial.
Flat racing has changed massively in the last 20 years, almost as much chance a horse will have their prep in Dubai or an Kempton/Wolverhampton AW race these days...

For the more unproven unexposed horses yes, as trainers will be deciding whether to run in the Guineas or not.

But for the high class 2yos they will generally be just prep runs, though Aidan does tend to send his best colts straight to the race.

the derby trials will be more of a fact finding mission to see if they have a good one on their hands.

Pretty sure he will be eligible as long as he doesn't run in/win more than 3 Bumpers ??
