    • ....quite a spread of Allart (Marsh) prices, Hills/BV 20-1, Sky as low as 12-1. 25-1 Arkle.

I don't think I could feel more opposite.

Monkfish's jumping debut for a novice was perfect.

Allart has literally made mistakes. You'd have to have closed your eyes to be visually more impressed

I'm not knocking Allart, he was good, it's just beating Fiddlerontheroof isn't that much better than beating Ontheropes and Sam's Profile is it? So a Grade 2 in name sure, but Monkfish would have fucking walloped that field too wouldn't he?

I think Monkfish's debut was better than Shishkin or Envoi Allen's though, certainly the latters...

Regardless, Allart was good - I don't want that point to get lost

I just don't think I'd be getting as carried away that he's a must bet or anything like that, he's a fair price at 20/1, and I'd love to see him back in trip given the speed he showed but I doubt I will get chance to see that in March unless Shishkin doesn't show up.

        • More chance of allart going up in trip than down imo. He wasn’t stopping there on soft tacky ground. Could end up being the Henderson rsa horse

          • I'd be very surprised if Allart races in anything other than the arkle.
That was a good performance and when asked to pick up he responded very well.

Shishkin might have a rival in his own stable, and that may well be the obstacle to him running in the arkle, to be fair.
But Shishkin has only had a school round so far and at least Allart had a race.
But the alternative might be Envoi Allen.

We'll see what Nicky does, hopefully they're not too quiet in the stable at any point.
Do you think he hears them talking to him sometimes ?

I must have been watching a different horse in a different race.

Absolutely opposite look he gave me

That wasn't a run from a horse wanting a trip, or a staying performance at all to my eye....

What a great sport this is

                  • I’d make the marsh the odds on favourite to be fair but he wasn’t stopping there and if they choose to dodge envoi I doubt they will go down in trip especially with the stable having shishkin

                    • I like a horse with speed like Allart, and he showed today that the engine is good also.
Perfect arkle horse as long as the jumping improves.
Henderson often runs his arkle horses in this race.
I wouldn't be too concerned of the trip today, this issue may well be Shishkin.
But hopefully they have a choice to make.

Doubt they'd go near the RSA with him.
Although he may well stay further in time.

....I was already on a/r @ 22-1 and took a little of the 36-1 (boosted) ‘win today & a/r’ offer but regardless of where it goes it’s likely to be playing for place money. Nice performance today, though.

I will eventually back him but not until I decide whether to go for any race or the Arkle/Marsh each way with cash outs. Haven’t decided yet and there’s really no rush to. He’s not going to be particularly short with envoi and Shishkin making the markets.

One thing I will say is he wouldn’t be for me as an RSA bet until he’s run over the trip. 2m 3f at Ascot is a million miles away from 3m round Cheltenham. Chalk and cheese. Doesn’t strike me as an RSA horse personally.

On breeding, by Shantou, that’s true.

Shantou has a really good Festival record at 2M4F and above, and not so good over 2M.

                              • Though Allart finished the race strongly. He was 10/1 in running for a mile but powered home. I’ve mainly backed him for the Arkle and had 50’s but should have covered him for Marsh but didn’t think he’d win today first time out. A lot to like there but it was Ascot and not Cheltenham
