Absolutely but if I want to get a big AP price I like to do that before they set foot on track and to try and work out where they may end up . I have fun trying to second guess these trainers. Some you win, some you don't. I'm happy to take my chances.Big odds, small stakes. Bookies hate that. Works for me, might not work for others. 1pt at 25/1 with potential of cashout isn't going to hurt anyone.

on a separate note - does anyone know why Next Destination was moved from WPM to PN?
Mullins name checked the '4 mile' chase for him prior to the race

Ontheropes (David) has chasing experience but will be better over further. He could develop into a 4 mile chase horse.
His run would certainly suggest that could suit. With his experience of last season he could go into the race off the back of 6 or 7 runs over fences which would be a plus.
33/1 with cashout currently. I'll be waiting for an entry in a qualifying race before deciding to back as there's others from the yard I prefer but he's of interest.

      • There is no chance Monkfish goes for the NH Chase as the Albert Bartlett winner coupled with his debut today.

If he disappoints enough not to be an RSA horse between then and now, something will have gone wrong and he wouldn't run at the festival all.

Anyone disagree? I didn't think so

It would be foolish though, to assume that means The Big Getway is going for the NH Chase.

Let's take it as a given that Paul Townend wants to ride Monkfish (which is a f***ing given), it means the ride on The Big Getaway (or literally any other Mullins Novice Chaser) is up for grabs.

Do we assume Mullins puts his 2nd best RSA hope in the NH Chase? I don't think so! He's almost certainly going to have multiple horses who deserve to run at Cheltenham in the staying divisions... Townend is going to have single figured priced Mullins chasers in the Arkle/Marsh/RSA - that's a shoe-in.

Patrick Mullins would have a single figured priced horse in the NH Chase as an absolute shoe-in as well, but assuming it's The Big Getaway, based on Monkfish being impressive is wide of the mark.

We can't assume Willie won't have a few strong darts at the RSA and the NH Chase....I'd be absolutely astonished if he only had 2 runners over both races.

Considering you are on here every day, at least 8 hours a day... why not put a bit of time into producing your diary?

You've built up a cult following on here... why do you feel you don't have to back it up with your bets?

I would love you to prove you're profitable....

I echo this. As someone posting literally hundreds of times a day (often with strong views), a basic list of the horses you've backed would be useful for all viewers, frequent and infrequent. It might be a few pages long Lobos, but that's what the internet is for

Do what you like Lobos - contrary to Government policy at the moment it's not North Korea, but I do think a basic diary isn't much to ask is it? It doesn't need to be as detailed as Kev's diary (which wouldn't look out of place on Rishi Sunak's desk )

Joking aside though, I don't think it's in particularly good spirit to benefit daily from the views (and hard work) of people like Kev, but not offer a basic list of 'these are the horses I've backed' in return. Bit have your cake and eat it no?

              • I have just been looking at the Irish NH Race Programme for December to see where decent quality Novice Chasers that have won a race can get a second run prior to Christmas........the cupboard is almost bare, over any trip.

                * The Beginner's chases are out.
                * The Rated Novice chases are out as rating cielings are too low to get a run
                * There are no 'Winners of One" Novice chases pre-Christmas at all

There is only one race from tomorrow until boxing day that a decent winning novice can run in at all.

That is the 2M1F Grade 3 Klairon Davis Novice Chase at Naas next Saturday.

As Gordon Elliott said he may find something for Easywork pre-Christmas outside of taking on Envoi Allen in todays Grade 1, then its either:-

                * No he isnt, he will have to wait until Christmas
                * He would have to look in the UK Race Programme
                * He could run over 2M1F in the Klairon Davis next weekend.

If its the latter, don't be fooled into thinking it means that he is an Arkle horse........its the only Novice Chase in Ireland he can run in for 4 weeks.

I would think the likes of Darver Star and Unexcepted would be declared for the Klairon Davis early next week.

                • I just think it’s way too early to be calling where Mullins novice chasers will go, especially bullish about the NHC. RSA may be easier given what Monkfish did yesterday.

Yes Patrick has made it quite apparent he wants to ride The Big Getaway, but that will only happen if he doesn’t look up to Grade 1 standard imo.

Looking at it he has Monkfish, The Big Getaway, Lord Royal and Five O’Clock for the staying chases.

I would imagine only one of those will head to the NHC and he’ll be mob handed in the RSA. That’s my take on it at present.

Best play is use free bets on the NHC on the latter 3 listed above

Ok. I've started to list a few in the individual race chats anyway so might as well give it a go. The layout will be well simple though......a bit like me ! I'll try and separate the TWAR horses out as clearly they can run in multiple races. It will take me a while though!!!

I made this point a few pages back. When WPM talking about a chaser he's excited to go chasing with, I really don't think he meant NHC did he? Of course plans evolve and it will depend on what he does on the track, but lets look at what he's done on the track. Watch the Ballymore back. They went an even pace and it turned into a sprint. TBG galloped them into submission one by one until EA and Easywork proved themselves too good. A horse that does that at Cheltenham doesn't lack gears, and off what he cost and Ruby's comments about his natural cruising speed (being quicker than Monkfish), I genuinely think the Marsh and a rematch with EA is far more likely than a spin in the NHC. Game of opinions, I could easily be wrong.

                        Comment

                        • I’d be stunned if TBG ends up in the 4 miler - he’s shown he has a good amount of pace in his runs last year. I still believe TBG has the most scope over a fence than Monkfish but we need to see him come out and do it on the track. Mullins also has Energumene so I can see him running multiple horses across the marsh and RSA.

                          • I think the Mullins horses will be split as follows at this point

                            Arkle -
                            Unexcepted
Plus 1 or maybe both of klassical dream/blackbow

                            Marsh -
                            Elixir D’ainay
                            Energumene

                            RSA -
                            Monkfish
                            The Big Getaway

                            NH Chase -
Five o’clock the most likely or Lord Royal

                            Comment

                            • Imo last season Mullins kept his 3 best staying chasers separate in Faugheen, Allaho and Carefully Selected. Therefore I'd expect him to do similar again this season. With Monkfish looking certain for the RSA I'd expect TBG to go either Marsh or NH Chase. However I do think it will depend on what else comes out as to which race he goes for. With the likes of Lord Royal, Five O'clock or possibly Asterion forlonge.

                              • I met ruby at a PP event last March pre festival and had a good chat with him for 15/20 mins or so. Five o’clock was a horse I asked about and he was surprised about its race placement last year, and agreed he thought it needed a trip. His words were along the lines of, you’d want to back this for the 4 miler next season early, and the National the year after.
