Haha, I was being tongue in cheek, although Monday and Saturday are potential quite different.

    • Monday’s Wexford card actually looks quite interesting what with Andy Dufresne, Minella Indo and Gaspard Du Seuil all running. I was hoping to get Minella Indo in the book for the Gold Cup but his price has prevented me from doing so.

Minella Indo isn't a horse who has been 'on it' first time out so maybe his price will get bigger after Monday?

        Here's hoping!

Up against a decent field today, suspect he should be winning this, or at the very least going very close if he’s going to be Festival contender class. Not far off a year ago that he beat Monkfish and that can only look promising when viewing his potential.

I’ve backed him today and TWAR and hoping for a good performance.
I'd just be careful with taking that race with Monkfish too literally. Diol Ker was racing as a 2nd season novice when defeating Monkfish, whereas it was Monkfish's first start over hurdles. To add more context, Diol Ker was beaten by Malinas Jack and Foxy Jacks on hurdle debut (albeit he stumbled at the last), and beaten by Moratorium on his second start (Moratorium's most recent runs have seen him PU and 75l behind Cap York).
Whereas Monkfish progressed throughout the season, we unfortunately didn't get to see Diol Ker. He still may be very good, so is interesting today. But he's priced on that defeat of Monkfish and I'm pretty sure that race won't be an accurate reflection of both horses' respective abilities going forward if that makes sense. I may be wrong, we shall see

Diol Ker was a good form/experience angle last year for the bartlett.
But what you've said is pretty much how I feel now.
And of all the horses I watched last year, Monkfish is one that seemed to really benefit from racing, as I think he's slow on the uptake.

Yeah Monkfish really progressed last season and was the one out of the front 4 in the Bartlett I hadn't backed. To make matters worse I even had a nice double on Monkfish to win the race he won where Run Wild Fred fell, rolling onto none other than Diol Ker for the Bartlett, before he went into hiding.

Never run at his optimum trip first time out either, except for in his PTP which he duly obliged. I fully expect him to win at Wexford.

And how much faith do you have in the trainer?

With 11lbs in hand on Milan Native you'd hope so...

On Diol Ker, I just don't know what to do (which usually ends up in me doing nothing). That 7L beating of Monkfish meant he was a decent price angle in the Albert Bartlett and I was keen. Also given the 'owners' you can assume he's always going to be better as a chaser.

However in reality, he didn't run and he's shorter now (at 20/1) than he was for the Albert Bartlett, so the price is taking into account his expecting improvement quite significantly without us seeing it.

Noel Meade doesn't 'put me off' but it's not really endearing either. I suppose if he's good enough, he'll be in the RSA with Flanagan on.

Taking 20/1 with PP now is not quite tempting enough, as if he's beaten they'll likely push him out and the cashout won't be much so it's more like a traditional punt, and all things considered, I'd probably rather see him win today and back him at a shorter price (I don't think they'll go crazy slashing him) when I can properly assess him.

I won't be taking the short price about him today, either.

                    • Diol Ker could go Marsh route. 33/1 for that with cash out. Surely makes sense to back that also? (If you hadn't already of course).

I'd say it's more the fact that he is Gigginstown that people want to get him onside for the RSA, but they have a huge amount of horses that could end up there currently, and a lot less that look suited to the Marsh, but Diol Ker could be one of them for sure, Column Of Fire another, IMO.

                      • Got 1.5 PTS on Diol Kerr @ 16/1 TWAR but in no hurry to top him up before today's race so that probably says how I feel about his chances of winning at the festival. One of those bets I sort of regret placing. There will be plenty of those though.

I’ve requested Diol Ker to win today and win the RSA, 66/1 (75/1 with boost) with Will Hill. 20/1 too short on what he’s achieved so far but one that I’d kick myself I’d missed if he hacked up today.

Don't suppose you can get the Marsh double priced up too?
