Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

They have a gold cup winner so maybe win the four miler and then have a crack at the next years National is also a consideration

You've just said all the things you believe.

I'm asking if we have evidence that the Donnolly's would go out of their way to have a horse run in a specific race?

Just repeating myself, but it's dangerous to assume... if you owned a horse and had Patrick Mullins telling you, you'd win the NH Chase, and that Monkfish is a better horse, do you think they'd put their foot down and demand he ran in the RSA?

That's a leading question of course.... but still.....

He may well end up a better prospect than Monkfish, what do you think Ricci will do? Demand he wins the 'better race' or just wants the winner?

        • Every owner wants a Festival winner. TBG would be a strong fav in the NHC and the likely winner imo which is hard to say with my Galvin bets but nonetheless that's what I think. It's not like it's a crap race and it can be used as a stepping stone to the Gold Cup.

just common sense isnt it that every owner wants gold cup horses?

Like you say if he progresses going chasing and ends up winning a G1 prior to the festival then they won't be heading for the NHC would they?

Well yeah every owner probably does want Gold Cup horses, but the RSA isn't a Gold Cup either is it? Plus they already have a Gold Cup winner, it's not like they're directly linked either.

Why didn't they try Melon in the Arkle or RSA if they care so much about the prestige of the races? Surely they'd have wanted a Champion Chaser, not a Ryanair Horse? So why did they run him in the Marsh? -------- that logic doesn't add up in my opinion.

Also, it's not like there have never been Gold Cup horses from the NH Chase despite it's much shorter history.... I'm just saying you shouldn't assume he's "sure to go for the RSA"... it's far from a sure thing?

It is unlikely that if he wins a G1 on route to the festival he runs in the NH Chase though, I absolutely agree with that.... so essentially that's what it boils down to - and I don't think it's "sure" that he does.... he doesn't seem the most likely G1 3 mile chaser in the yard at the moment, but that can all change quickly as they've not actually jumped yet

He’s still a price I’d consider if it wasn’t for my concerns over the ground.
''Hopefully the ground won't be too heavy for him'' was what Willie said about Unexcepted before he ran on Tuesday. You can view his comments from looking at Tuesday's Racingpost in the Newspaper archive.

I personally think he will be even better on better ground because he'll be allowed to attack his fences and then not have to take a pull afterwards as his jumping already looks good.

Five O Clock to me just screams four miler. Dour stayer. Could see him in a National one day as it goes

Do you not need to be a dour stayer to win the RSA too?

They definitely put up Annamix. Or was it Senewalk

I’d put up Five O’Clock a long time before the OJA came out but now I feel they’ve cursed me

It was said lots of times last year by Mullins and Nicky with regards to Shiskin and Asterion F that that Joe Donnelly doesn't care what races his horses run in and leaves it up the trainers because they know best. They seemed to love that about him. If both Willie and Patrick say NHC that's where he will go. Be a different story if we were talking about the O'Leary's who definitely favor the RSA and it wouldn't have surprised me if they sent Champagne Classic there even though Gordon was saying RSA all along.

Can anyone remember why Mullins didn't have a runner in the RSA 2 years ago? presume one of his must of got injured close to it but cant remember off the top of my head.

Patrick got his way the last 2 years and I think he will again with TBG and hopefully get chinned on the line by Galvin

                        • I think Ruby talking about The Big Getaway vs Patrick talking about the Big Getaway is like...

                          Black Hercules - part deux.

A damn good example of class overcoming trip.
Ruby was intimating that TbG may run in the Marsh vs Envoi Allen again if they spot any chink.

Galvin to win today & a/r at Festival @ 16-1.
Galvin to win today & NHC @ 22-1.

Do you think he will be smashed in again today? Carefully selected went off 10/11! What price will Galvin go off?!
