Jockey comments off race prob take with a pinch of salt- "QUOTES: UNEXCEPTED jumped brilliantly. I was taking him back over the first four fences. He was winging them so I just let him go after the first in the straight. He made lengths over his fences so you would have to be delighted with that. He's a half-brother to Great Field so hopefully he can win some of the same sort of races - Mark Walsh, rider"

Cheers Outlaw. He really did jump very well and attacked his fences at speed.

Yup just like his nutty relation, was/am a big fan of Great Fiield it's just a shame he never put it together in a top race

The similarities are quite similar - with his half brother.

The hurdle campaign - 3 runs ending in a PU in a handicap hurdle.

Great Field though had to wait till January for his first start over fences and by the beginning of his second season chasing (delayed through injury till the following March) he was rated 161 after 4 easy front running victories (jumping from fence to fence as they say ) in his novice campaign. He ran four times as a novice from January to April, rounding off beating Ordinary World easily in the grade one at punchestown.

Sadly he missed the arkle that year that Altior won against horses rated lower than 150. Including Willies' only entry Royal Caviar !!!

Anything like his half brother and a rating of 160 would put him right up there. For the arkle.

              • I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned or not but would anyone be concerned that Unexcepted could be ground dependent? His best performances have all been on ground worse than Soft and this can often create exaggerated winning margins. His only try on Good ground lead to him being pulled up, although that may not have been the sole reason for not finishing.

                • I was lucky to be at Fairyhouse last year when Unexcepted won his first race on Irish soil and I was so impressed by him that day . In my opinion I think he could be a big player in Willies this year that just my thoughts but after today’s performance . I can’t wait to see him back out again . And I have done a small wager on him each way for the Arke 2021 after today’s race .

I had quite a go at him for Supreme that day after Fairyhouse. Was sick when I seen him up in trip at Xmas against Easywork. Then today left him and he wins like that .. maybe one of them curse horses for me now.

Absolutely. I suspect that's the reason he's out early to take advantage of the ground. No doubt he's suited to the mud. He waltzed through it today. His brother ? Great Field also loved the mud.

Henderson normally sends his good ones down the RSA (Champ, Santini, Might Bite) over the Marsh.... Mister Fisher last year - mehhhh!!

I'm going to back him for the RSA at 33/1 for this (Bet365 - cashout option), think he could the best over here over 2m5f and 3m, so expect his price to come in for both

                        • Unexpected RPR 153 - already good enough to place in an average Arkle.

A marker set for other Beginners Chase winners.

I looked back at Cilaos Emery’s electric January 2019 Chase debut, and it had an RPR of 145, and a Racing Post comment of:-

“As impressive a chasing debut we've seen all season from a horse who enters the Arkle reckoning now. Most firms go 8-1 about the Arkle and, in what looks an open renewal at this stage, he'd hold obvious claims.”

Updated above with comparison from 2019, for Cilaos Emery.

Pretty fair price that. I'm tempted to back but will just hold off until we get an update on who of the Mullins yard are going chasing.
Considering he was 33/1 before the race, I would have expected shorter odds given the manner of victory. With CG pulling up the market looks to have considered the race to fall apart. But judging the first half of the race and how Unexcepted kept asserting I think CG may have struggled today even if he hadn't of pulled up.
