  • Decent start for Darver Star today, though i'm still very much on the fence with him. As I wasn't particularly blown away by the performance myself.

Rapid improver last year, who mixed it in both novice and open company. But 9 years old. And whilst his performances in open company can only be looked upon impressively in the back of my mind I do feel that if more novices did what he did, then they too could mix it in open company just as well. Full credit to connections for being brave, but I think what he did (placing in a weak CH as a novice) could be achieved by quite a few if connections rolled the dice.

For me today showed his class. And proved that if there isn't a superstar in the division, he's a big danger. As I think he won't be far off his hurdles mark as a chaser.

Though I have backed him for the Marsh, considering I am going into the Arkle making a book, i've probably missed a trick there based on his price now for the Arkle, which has little appeal now. It's shorter than I had expected, but just goes to show why you almost have to make your judgement before the race now.

I'd still expect him to be tried over further as the season develops at some stage. But no reason for them to change tack until they are forced up in trip. I'd expect him to be running over 2 miles at Christmas. I think he may well find one or two too good there, as he did last season (i'm hoping Klassical Dream / Elixir D'Ainay).

I mention the NHC but has De Broomhead ever had one in that ? RSA would be favourite imo for which he's a huge 50/1. 33/1 for the NHC and 20/1 TWAR.
Had a look back over the last ten years and i can't see any .
henry de bromhead runners in the n.h.chs.

Absolutely - very very impressive jumping.
Seems odd Nicky H even mentioned the Champion Hurdle as a thought, in his ATR stable tour.

I dont think HdB puts his novices anywhere near the NHC, so the RSA seems the natural option for the stable.

That was my thought as well which is why I've not gone TWAR. He wouldn't be quick enough for Marsh so the RSA does look nailed on. 50's is far too big for what he's done.

                      • Why I love this forum - I missed Darver's race, but then saw on twitter after all the bookies talking like he was the second coming of Christ.

Come on here - everyone: he was fine. encouraging start

It sounds glib, but it isn't. This forum is a treasure

                            Twitter is a bit weird.

So is FB, I'm in a FPL group and some sort of horse racing tipping one and it's embarrassing. I don't post for fear of getting into an arguement and luring them to this forum

I can't leave the groups though, people's stupidity is a bit addictive. Seeing people "tip" a few horse 25p e/w with absolutely no explaination as to why.

I think a few people summed Darver Star up really well, in that he just showed he's still got a decent level of ability and is likely to be a similar rated chaser to hurdler. I don't think he'll be top notch in either sphere (as in top class) but he is a horse that will provide a bar that horses need to reach.

I also think the fact he's running over 2m next time doesn't mean he's running in the Arkle... but you'd want him backed for both races if you could, at this early stage.

                            • Shan Blue was very impressive today jumped well and didn't come off the bridle beating an okish field. He wasn't a superstar over hurdles but did come an (albeit distant) 6th in the ballymore. Seems to be best priced 33s for the Marsh but based on today he looks to have improved for a fence and he's one I've made a note.

                              • Darver performance today is ok
Obviously shows he's a half decent horse, but didnt jump all that naturally for me. Will want him to improve on next run before I start thinking about him for any decent races
