Have flagged a couple of times on the Daily Flat thread that they have left Hugh Taylor antepost tips for the weekend unchanged for at least an hour when they have obviously been cut with the Oddschecker bookies. Indicates that they might be last to cut if one is being backed across the boards.

    • From memory Ladbrokes don't go NRNB until very late on.
      For all races that is.

That's precisely what will happen......imo of course. Just can't get my head around why a horse placed in an Irish and English Champion Hurdle would be aimed at any race other than the Arkle. It'll suit him perfectly. Just can't see him stepping up at Cheltenham and taking on Envoi. Hes one of the few I haven't backed TWAR which says a lot in my book !

        • Bit the bullet and taken the 25/1 on The Big Getaway 4 miler and also doubled him up with Monkfish 10/1 RSA (my kinda double) . 1pt on each. Bank account has taken a right bashing today getting these good things on board !

          • Id be dissapointed if TBG goes to the 4 miler i really think with his point background he will turn into the number 1 rsa horse for mullins..the size of him hell jump fences like they are hurdles!

Sounds like Monkfish has been given the number 1 spot already so just hedging my bets just in case Patrick gets his way with The Big Getaway..............that rhymes......

...because there were no other races to run him in.

If there had been a grade 1 intermediate hurdle race instead of those, what is to say he wouldn't have put up just as creditable a performance?

They'll try him up in trip, and have a decision at Cheltenham to make. It's incredibly unlikely he's miles better at one trip than the other really, so personally I think he needs backing for both (with cashout) for whoever can.

                • And of course there is every chance The Big Getaway and Monkfish both run in the RSA, Willie normally likes to have 2/3 darts at each race if he can so see no reason why people are trying to split their targets this early I see 5hem both running and just need to side with one

But when it's Patrick that's trying to split their targets to his advantage then you have to take notice.

Historically, it would be to work out Ruby's ride in each race (not in this specific example of course) .... but working out Willie's first string and what Ruby would want to do used to be a factor.

I agree that now, it's not as big a deal as I don't believe Paul Townend commands as much respect in the process - but that's just a feelin'

                      • A lot of people were talking up Aione for the National Hunt Chase and although I haven’t backed it myself I feel that is Patrick’s most likely ride in that race, sure he would love to ride The Big Get Away or something potentially classier in the race so he will mention it publicly to get the feelers out there although I’m not sure that would affect willie anyway

Every year Patrick tries to get a good one to go for the National Hunt race and what he normally rides is not what he wants but will be good enough anyway

Maybe he'll conveniently forget to put TBG in the RSA as he did with one (name evades me) that he wanted to ride in the Amateur race a few years back.

                            • Patrick certainly has an impact but it’s quite hard to put a finger on how much influence he has regarding targets, I feel he would be genuine enough to give the right recommendations but he certainly has more influence over Paul than he did Ruby I would have thought

Yep, I reckon he's taken him around the back of the stables and given him a right seeing to a few times.
