The betting suggested there was little between those 4 with prices of 4/1, 9/2, 5/1, 5/1, which ended up being the case.
It also suggested there was a gap between the quartet and the rest of the field (No others horses were single figures) which also ended up being the case with them pulling 10 lengths clear.
The outcome of the race played out as the market suggested.

Whether the Ballymore or other lines of form turn out stronger in hindsight is certainly up for debate but i'm personally not using the bunched finish, in this instance to dismiss their claims going forward. I think they are all very good horses. The 2019 RSA (TOTG, Santini, Delta Work) comes to mind and wasn't too dissimilar...2.25L between the 3, pulling well clear (16L) of the rest. (Granted those 3 had more form built up proving their ability before that race)
    2.23am?

Parenthood treating you well I see

    • I think Fusil Raffles was actually pretty decent there. Won't take 33/1 for the Marsh now but it does get the juices flowing.... great to see horses I know jumping over obstacles rather than the same 200 horses competing in the same flat handicaps every other weekend. If I read about Arecibo once more

        • Decent chase debut from Fusil Raffles. Looked like he'd make hard work of it for much of the race but in the end had a fair bit in hand at the line which suggests there's more to come.

Quick Grabim ran a nice race too. Get the impression he'll bump into a one through much of the season but could be one for the Grand Annual

Do you think it was a case of him getting outpaced and needing further?

Or not being match fit ?

To be winning a festival race outside of the handicaps you would need to be superior to horses like Gumball and Quick Grabim IMO, but he was...?

            • Just managed to watch the race.

Thought the first 2 ran well.

Gumball was slick from A to B until Quick Grabim put him under pressure 3 out think it was.

Not sure if Fusil was just maybe not 100% match fit as when QG turned the screw on Gumball he seem outpaced but then he seemed to make up the ground quite easily.

              • I think Fusil Raffles will be going up in trip. As much as Gumball was fit and sets a good pace, it'll be a whole other level taking to the likes of the Henry VIII Novices' Chase, Arkle etc. If he struggled to keep tabs and get outpaced over 2 miles today I don't think he will have what it takes as the races and opposition get stronger. Even allowing fitness and experience to improve that. I seem to remember Henderson bemoaning the horses fitness when he scraped (taking into account his odds) a win on his seasonal debut last year in the Elite hurdle. But he never threatened at all in his 2 races after that over 2 miles. So I wouldn't take it as a given that he'll improve hugely with fitness on his side.

In truth i was only really impressed with how he put the race to bed before the last. But in fairness he did it in a manner which suggests he had more in hand than meets the eye.

                  • Back for another year.

My big bet at the end of last season was The Big Getaway for the RSA. Saw him in the flesh and he looked like an incredible chaser all over. Definitely look forward to seeing how he gets on over fences. Fancy him to be a different proposition around the new course

He does look a proper chaser. He did very well as a hurdler but I feel he'll leave that form miles behind chasing and leading up to a RSA challenge. I firmly believe he'll end up Mullins number 1 RSA horse.

Would love to see Beacon Edge run close to boost the Cedarwood Road form. I think CR could be on everyone's lips this coming season. Right under the radar ATM. Not for long though.

I think they went about as quick as you can go at Uttoxeter, so most horses may have got outpaced. Especially first run.

As an introduction I was very impressed as some of these novice chases tell you nothing at all, as they lob around, popping fences against shite first time up usually.

They clearly said after today's race that he went for his girths/took a blow after 3 out - Not certain what all that means, but I think it means the horse saying - What the fuck is this, I'm knackered.

But, like you said he picked them up and went away at the line. Almost Altior like (dare I say it)
Good tick in the box for attitude I reckon.

The whole trip thing doesn't matter too much at this stage as most of the reasoning/choices is often around other horses form and availablity.
He'll slot into either the arkle or March if he continues to progress.

Or the Novice Handicap chase if that still excists by then...

The jockey puts me off long term, as it does with If The Cap Fits who I'm excited about seeing.

Possibly a handicap, but given he was 150+ hurdler he'll have to disappoint a bit to get a mark for that specific race (if it's still with us)
I think the other two that ran yesterday may well frank the form if they run a little more conservatively against lesser opposition to win their novice chase, and they all could end up with higher ratings than they probably deserve.
Quite often the earlier starters end up with slightly inflated ratings.
This is particularly true with Juvenile hurdlers and Novice chasers.
