  • Just dug up Gordon Elliott’s interview after the Ballymore, he says “ I thought Davy had given them to much lead (easywork and the big getaway) but the horse he just stays like hell” stays like hell... maybe that answers my question of speed or stamina, maybe a few more points to go on the RSA before I leave it alone!!

    • I might take a different angle to cover it, look for an alternative or 2 in the JLT at a big price then if EA does go RSA it will look big on hindsight

FIDDLERONTHEROOF 33/1 - I vaguely remember seeing him in someone's Diary (not sure if was for the Marsh?) But what does everyone think? Is he going chasing Would? Any quotes? Would this be his target? Tizard poor fez last season, and horse didn't live up to expectations in supreme, but many horses dont and improve.

I was a fully paid up member of the Tizzard fan club last year and it didn’t pay well

I thought he had a great squad of novice hurdlers last season and most will go over fences this year. Can I bring myself to back any of them though? Not right now, especially given the depth I see in the novice chase division. I’ll probably get proved wrong and look stupid but I have to draw the line somewhere as I can’t back everything.

Of his going chasing, the two that interest me most are The Big Breakaway and Eldorado Allen. I was beating both those drums early doors last year (and the year before for Allen) and I think if they were trained for Cheltenham and arrive in peak form, they’d be serious horses. Two ‘ifs’ that I can’t guarantee or trust the trainer to do though.

        • I know JM the trainer is putting me off, and Fiddler was one i fanciest last year. TBB RSA bound, no? What about Eldorado whats his plans?

Looking something else for Marsh, maybe just top up on Chantry House, but again not 100% it goes here either!

          • What about Easywork BB?

If EA does go RSA there has to be a chance Easywork will stay at the intermediate trip?

Purely my opinion but I think they’ll all go chasing:
              Fiddlerontheroof - Arkle/JLT
              Eldorado Allen - Arkle/JLT
              Harry Senior - RSA
              The Big Breakaway - RSA
              Lieutenant Rocco - RSA/NH Chase

Chantry House I’d be fairly confident will go to the Marsh and he was one of my first bets after the festival ended. Funnily enough, he was also one of my first bets for the Ballymore last season along with Shishkin and they did not pan out well

              • Look no further than Chantry House for value in the Marsh. Henderson has already said he'll step up to 2 1/2 miles this year and go Chasing. With Shiskin Arkle bound the Marsh looks the sensible target. Take Envoi out of that race and he'd be fav imo. 20/1 is a lovely price.

Indeed. I’d backed him already but I posted after the Envoi and RSA option broke that the better play was to cover Chantry in the Marsh, rather than Envoi in the RSA.

                  • I'll most likely start adding some free bets on Chantry and the likes as cover in the Marsh in case Envoi does go RSA.
Not prepared to part with any cash on the scenario yet as i'd still be confident he lines up here and cant see how any of the potential field could beat him barring a mishap.

                    • Think if it was purely Gordys decision they’d target the Marsh; sounds like the owners are more keen to try and go down the RSA route......

Other than the Gold Cup in the future, has Gordon actually mentioned a target or trip for Envoi Allen in his novice chase season?

                        • Slight drift on EA odds for RSA on oddschecker today and some blue for the Marsh

Out to 8/1 for RSA and into 5/2 for the Marsh with Betfair and PP. You’d have to think Gordon has said something to them given he’s sponsored by Betfair.

Very interesting, almost as if they’ve gone best price on the RSA to entice any money that is around for him on the RSA, and want it to be placed with them, whilst at the same time deliberately going shortest on the Marsh to dodge him.

I have mainly backed for the Marsh with a little bit of cover for the RSA. Might just be reading into the odds change too much, but I do get the feeling it’s significant rather then random and its enough to put me off adding any more Envoi Allen for the RSA bets at the moment.

That certainly looks interesting to me. They were already top price with Skybet for the RSA (same company now of course) so wasn’t like they needed to push their price out to get ahead of their market rivals.
