    • I’ve no idea where to put this, but I’m interested in what you guys think of my thoughts on Janidil. He’s been on my shortlist since the Festival, and I just don’t know what to do with him. The novice chases are what most will be thinking and what he’s quoted for, hence posting on this thread, although it really belongs on an entirely different thread as you’ll see from my conclusion.

I was interested In him last March until Willie ran him in the Albert Bartlett which I thought very strange at the time. Campaigned over 2 miles all season with good collateral form (which has been franked incredibly well since), the step up to 3 miles looked odd given he could have taken in a novice at any time over over further to test the water. And despite that he finished 5th, running on after a very strange ride where he was never put in the race. His breeding hardly suggested he wanted a trip either. JP horse. Strange choice of race. Strange ride. Mental note for the future I thought at the time.

Oddly this season he’s quoted for the Arkle and RSA and not the Marsh. The Marsh would be the most obvious race if he goes over fences wouldn’t it? Particularly given last seasons strange campaign and outcome if taken at face value wouldn’t it? So why isn’t he quoted for the Marsh? Strange. It doesn’t matter really I suppose given where my head is, but it is odd. Nobody in the stable wants a small nibble?

My first instincts after reviewing the race, alongside my original thoughts were that he’s going to be a handicap hurdle plot. Watch for Aintree and Punchestown entries. Of course that never happened and perhaps it was a longer term plan anyway. He could have skipped the Festival and still gone to either off a better mark, but he went to the Festival anyway, so that didn’t make sense. A longer term plan made more sense.

A look at his collateral form over two miles is impressive in hindsite. Look at his form in the context of this seasons County Hurdle. We all like(d) the first three home from that race, to one degree or another, for loftier targets this season, which suggests the County or Coral Cup off his current mark are plausible targets. And I think it’s probable that he had a sighter at last seasons Festival. Some handicap mark management this season was perhaps always the long term plan. Course experience, quiet campaign, perfect mark. Let’s put it this way, if he’s a graded horse and looked after this season, what price will he be as a Willie/JP combination for either race in March when people latch on? Does JP really need another novice chaser for this season? He did the County/Coral Cup double this season. Surely there’s a plan for another tilt, and Janidil screams out ‘plot’.

Whatever the answer is, I confidently recommend him as an ‘any race’ option for those that have Hills. I don’t and he’s the kind of horse that makes me p*ssed off at them for closing me. I want a decent stab at him at 20/1, and I’m so convinced of the plot that I’m finally going to be forced to get in my car and drive to a Hills shop for the first time in god knows how years!!!

If this post is better suited to another thread could someone move it please.

        • ....lots of ‘talk’ about Janidil in the lead up to this years Festival and i added it to my ‘any race’ portfolio at the end of March @ 22-1 (with Hills boost) so that price has remained unchanged.

          • Take another look at his cross form over 2 miles Lobos. Then tell me why you think he ran in the Bartlett?

Really liked him last season and his 2m form was impressive. Was at Down Royal and Fairyhouse for his two wins and loved the way he ran - I actually backed him for the Supreme. The 3m run was strange, but I love the look of the form of the race - we all know about the first 4.. but there are a few I like in behind, notably Cobblers Way. I wouldn't actually be shocked to see Janidil rock up in the Stayers Hurdle. He came from a long way back in the AB and 10l behind them 4 isn't bad form. Do you think he got the 3m Spectre?

                  Bit Blunt that Lobos.
Think the effort and enthusiasm demonstrated by Spectre deserves a good reason why.

Reminds me when this fella got up on Karaoke and started singing - Perfect - by Ed Sheeran.
                  Pretty good he was.

Then near the end of the song he beckoned a girl on to the stage. I assumed it was his girlfriend.

And immediately after finishing the song he proposed.

He put the mike into her face and she said.

                  "I'll think about it"

She was being polite and tactful.

                  I laughed.

I’m pretty sure handicap plot OTL. Given it’s JP you’d say the Pertemps could be an option. But given its Willie I’d say the County or the Coral Cup. The very fact that you think a Grade 1 hurdle is realistic suggests he has a very good handicap mark doesn’t it?

                        • I think if Janidil was looked on as a handicapper, he would have ran in one in March.

He could turn up in almost anything, but if pushed I would say the Stayers Hurdle.

There may be a few fancy prices to nibble at on the BFX in 4 or 5 races though.
