  • Would it better getting him added to the exchanges, Spectre? You'd get some wild prices for him on there , especially for the RSA.

    • Thanks BB. Very much appreciated.

        Possibly FM, but the place part on the exchange is usually terrible, and that's the bit I really want. I'm likely to lay off the win part on the Exchange at some point.

He might not be everyone's cup of tea, and most people won't immediately see him as an obvious candidate, but I think he wouldn't be without a chance if he was targeted that way.

          Hold The Note will be a second season chaser who has already shown he acts around Cheltenham, when finishing 3rd in last seasons Northern Trust Novices behind two horses that I've already backed in open chases at this seasons Festival. He looked as though he needed every yard of the trip last March though, where he didn't appear to have the pace to keep tabs on Imperial Aura and Galvin, but was still running on through the line. As an equivalent formline I'd take a comparison as a hurdler finishing 3rd in the Martin Pipe and then being targeted at one of the staying novice chases the following season. The difference with Hold The Note is he already has key chasing experience. I quite like Galvin for the NH Chase too, but I suspect Hold The Note would be far more competitive with that one over 3m6f than he was over 2m4f. In fact I'm not sure which way I'd go on the day because I see the trip as being a leveller.

          You could argue he's been the bridesmaid so far over fences, but I also went back and watched his race at Warwick over 3 miles, where he looked every bit the winner before finishing green. I think with that experience behind him he's an interesting horse to get onside in some way. I like second season chasers with proven course form. And there was enough about his performances to suggest he may well be a much better horse this time around with that experience under his belt. He'll still only be 7 this time around, and the whole thing probably happened a year too early for him last season. A price in the 50/1-66/1 for both the RSA and NH Chase would be interesting given they'd be a bit crazy not to make the most of his novice status. He could target the Festival Handicap Chase on the Tuesday, but why? I'm sure they'll exploit his mark somewhere, but they surely won't wait until March to do it when they have the potential of nice handicap somewhere along the way, and then an Open Graded Novice Chase in March.

          I'm pretty sure 365 canned my original account three years ago for asking for too many prices, so could someone so-minded ask them and/or Paddy Power for a price please.
          You can also go on Twitter for incognito price ups with Betfair and Paddy Power.
          @BetfairCS
          @PaddyPower #AskPaddy

          Betfair usually price them up quickly and then PP price exactly the same.
          Uou can also ask them to add to the Betfair Exchange market for a race, in the same tweet.

          • I'm interested to see what they do with HTN. He was probably one of my strongest handicap bets at the festival last season and he ran a good race, even if he was beaten a long way.

            The RSA would look beyond him imo but the NH Chase wouldn't be out of the question. The Ladbrokes Trophy would be interesting off his current mark so i'll be looking to see if he gets an entry.

            • Hold the Note added to RSA and NHC at 33/1 with Bet365. Seems to be their default price when adding to race markets

              • Thanks BB. That's really stingy given some of the horses that are available at bigger prices. I thought they'd probably go for 50/1 and hoped for 66/1.

                Thanks for the suggestion SW. I'll see what PP and BF come up with.

                • Just looked back at Chantry House form. Think it's already been highlighted that he fell 3 out when traveling strongly in his PTP where Monkfish won , Fury Road 4th and Fiddlerontheroof 5th. Not sure anyone's mentioned his first novice chase win at Cheltenham where he had Stolen Silver 2nd (won grade 2 next time) and Pileon 4th (2nd at Festival ). He is a very good alternative to Envoi in the Marsh.

                  • He is indeed. I got him on board early. It's just been nagging away at me that JP and Henderson may decide to go for the RSA though.

                      That is an option. Henderson did say after the Supreme that an extra half mile would suit and whilst he did get outpaced he still finished a respectable 3rd so he does possess a fair amount of speed. Maybe he'll take the Marsh route to the following seasons GC like Envoi. JPM does have a really good bunch of Novices this coming season. His manager will have a nice headache trying to place them all.

                        100% went in for the Marsh post festival. He'd have run in the Ballymore if it wasn't for Sporting John.

                        • Id rather back Sporting John in the marsh, Chantry House ran an ok race in the supreme where as i think sporting john ran no race at all in the ballymore, with no obvious excuses i think he has a higher ceiling and id base that on his past performances..it does seem that the meeting at Ascot in february took alot out of the horses in the heavy ground

                            SJ and CH are very closely matched on a line through Pipesmoker. CH beat him 21/4 lengths into 3rd at levels and SJ beat him 61/2 lengths into 2nd giving him 8lbs. SJ has the edge there but CH has the better Cheltenham Course form. 2 good horses.

                            • Anyone think Sporting John might be better going right handed or just one of those things on a limited sample size

                                He finished distressed in the Ballymore so think we can scratch that piece of LH form. He deserves another chance around there for sure.
