I think 2 and a half miles is probably his best trip from what ive seen, it was his jumping that let him down today, and he then had to use up energy to get back into a challenging position on the turn for home before tiring. There is every chance of course that his poor jumping was by design so he would interest me in any of the two races I mentioned.

Re Shan Blue....
"You won't see him in an RSA Chase – he has too much pace for that," was the rider's take on the winner, and although Dan Skelton did not rule out a tilt at the novices' 'Gold Cup', he made clear the attributes associated with winners of that race were not those which make Shan Blue so potent.
"I think the RSA could be a real stretch for him," said the trainer. "I don't think he's a slogger – and I think today proved that. He was very nimble at his jumps but when you need a big jump he's there for you as well. The reason he is a good horse is because he jumps well.

Just watched back some of the replays. If only TBB and IFTCF could jump fences........
I think IFTCF has probably reached his potential now but I haven't given up on TBB, who looks to me to have plenty of scope. Hopefuly still time for a lot more schooling because he seems to have the pace and appetite still for the RSA.

I understand Shan Blue has pace to drop back i would of thought they would aim Protekorat at the Marsh especially if he wins the dipper on NYD.
Shan deserves a crack at the RSA as looking at the race it might cut up a fair bit with Monkfish and Latest Exhibition being the main two for that looking at the betting. If it flops then it can go and win at Aintree.

Skeltons like downplaying Cheltenham but ultimately often end up there if they think they'll be competitive, which is fair enough obviously.
If Protektorat wins the dipper, then he has 2 really nice staying chasers to go to the spring festivals with.
Neither would need to run again until Cheltenham, having had 3 runs apiece.
A little break then have a go at the big races in the Spring.
They can make their minds up about Cheltenham near the time and when they know the likely ground and opposition.
They could easily split them, as I doubt they'd run them both in the same race, cos of the jockey.
And after a mid season break they both ought to be able to run in at least 2 of the big spring meetings, including Cheltenham.
If you have the Dipper winner and the Kauto Star winner, then skipping Cheltenham would be a little "too clever".
I hope Protektorat is the one they are most likely to lean towards further though as I've taken a a punt that they do with the RSA.
Someone send this to DAN.

I should've known - the Feltham winner never wins the RSAsame here, had a stinker of a day except the Shan Blue to win today bet. Credit to Dan he had his string in top condition yesterday.I think for an up and coming trainer the temptation of Cheltenham will be too much. I have seen Protecktorat appear in the Ultima market but think they’ll go with what everyone expects All Mankind in Arkle, Protecktorat in Marsh and Shan Blue in RSA.
