Initially I thought the same JM but he attacked 3 out to draw level and came back on the bridle rounding the turn, he then pinged the last 2 and sprinted away so I'd like think he would have prevailed anyway.
    Encouraging performance I thought...

Yes - certainly no reason to knock the performance at all, especially on debut.

        • Very good performance also from Energumene and he could be a player in one of these come March.

          • ....Energumene as low as 12-1 with PP for the Marsh (25-1 365). 16-1 a/r with Hills, although the 50-1 on offer this morning now looks decent.

Interesting. That is really short, compared with others.

              • ENERGUMENE jumped well enough today to run in anything.

His breeding is out of two generations of banks/cross-country Mares, and his Sire has two of his three top-rated UK/IRE horses that ran in the Aintree and Socitthe Grand Nationals.

So although it may seem daft after today’s run, he could stay all-day.

The top 3 of his sire, Denham Red, mostly stuck to minimum or intermediate trips throughout their novice chase careers, one of which was trained by the great man himself, and he's the horse that stuck to 2m. No reason to go further yet.

Un De Sceaux was his sires best, then next two were stayers.

Yeah, eventually. But during their novice chase seasons they weren't. Intermediate trips. Energumene is a novice, and I expect him to stay at the intermediate trip

                            • Chantry House made a bright start to his chasing career at Ascot but had a really good blow after the race so I’d be expecting him to improve quite a lot. It was tiring ground but I was pleased with his jumping and he warmed up nicely once Nico was able to let him get his wind. He certainly won’t be going down in trip and we’ll stick to this distance for the time being before probably stepping him up later in the season.
