Bit of a mixed bag then, no real conclusive evidence either way. You could be 1st in a Bartlett or PU for that matter Or run in a handicap hurdle or some of the top novice hurdle races

I'll give up on the previous seasons run theory as you could pick it out a hat by the looks of it

    Thanks for the effort though

Doesn't appear to be a race for the trends guys that's for sure. I always think that some of those future 3m chasers are being 'looked after' during their novice hurdle seasons so you can't always take the hurdle form too literally.

That's probably a more than fair comment

I just had a quick glance at the last 20 years GC winners as well and there is barely a festival novice hurdle winner amongst them. More often than not the best staying chasers are not going to be at the best during their novice hurdle season.

          • Best Mate, Kicking King both second in the supreme was a very tenuous thread I used to my gain in War of Attrition’s gold cup year

            • Pretty sure Shishkin makes his chasing debut at Kempton Park next Monday 23rd Nov?

de Boinville said on ITV when asked about him (was very careful not to talk him up) that he’ll “probably be out within a couple of weeks Monday”.

I’d be reasonably confident we’ll see Shishkin next Monday ladies and gents.

Yeah, I think Nicky alluded to the same thing, saying he'll start off where Altior started off chasing

But I actually thought it was a better round of jumping in comparison to his chase debut. He didn't really put a foot wrong. Which would be a concern.

I don't personally buy into the (what was) the 4 miler talk now. I've never thought of him as a boat. He showed a fair amount of pace for a 3 mile hurdler last year and for me taking the 4 out of the AB is the one that could mix it best at a shorter trip. So I don't see the trip being the issue at all. Prior to the race I commented how he is so consistant and always bang there at the finish, which would lead me to write off this race to a degree, at least until we see him again. All credit to Pencilfulloflead but i'll be stunned if he is up there with the best of the Irish by the festival. It was the biggest distance he's been beaten by in his career to date (7L), previously it was a 3L defeat to Abacadabras over the minimum trip. the fact his challenge today petered out so tamely, makes me thing something must have been amiss, the ground perhaps being one. Otherwise, with no clear mistakes, he just isn't good enough.
I think its worth noting that the Nolans' yard are having a horrendous season

Last 14 days 1 winner from 19 runners
Since June 5 winners from 113 runners

I hope they have found some form before LE's next run

Plenty of other notable names entered too. Feels like things are starting to pick up now as Willie is starting to enter some of his better horses now too.

                        • Interesting to see Energumene entered in that CoF race too, sure Willie said he'd be hurdling in his stable tour.

I backed him for the Arkle months ago and had written that off, but maybe a little hope yet...

                          • Janidil entered up in the 2m 4f novice chase at Gowran on Friday - first step towards the NH Chase!!!!

So Willie's idea that he could be an Arkle horse has already been binned by the look of it.

If he has the size and scope and can jump that big and long (which is the important part) and it not take much out of him then he could be a serious horse.

But I take the point as generally most horses in the staying division need to be more economical.
Yeah definitely. A bit like Thistlecrack in that King George (but not as 'impressive').... I don't think it'd hold him back in the RSA or anything like that, was a bit too strong in that original post

I think if he's still doing that when he's a Gold Cup contender I'd bring it up again though. I remember Kevin Blake saying the same thing and it always stuck with me which is why it's on my mind.

Definitely better to have the scope to clear fences easily, than not... but I just highlighted it as I wouldn't take it as a huge positive either... jumping 6 inches higher than you need to isn't an advantage.I saw on Instagram them saying he made the Cheltenham fences look small...... which isn't a negative, but not a positive automatically either.... that's all

I don't see how you've joined the dots there?

Winning a 2m4f race wouldn't mean he wasn't an Arkle horse.... it also doesn't mean he'll be a NH Chase horse over 1m2f further?

It's just good that he's out and getting a run, see how he jumps and see how he travels / finishes off the race etc... Too early to dismiss Willie's plans by an entry.
