      Okay I found it....

2017 - Poli Roi won it for Elliott and Russell at 1/4
He went on to be hammered behind Next Destination on his next start (Cracking Smart was 2nd) and did nothing the rest of the season actually. Was hyped up a bit before the season started from memory.

2016 - Monbeg Notorious - Elliott/R.Walsh 8/11f - (The Storyteller Fell in the face) - Moulin A Vent was well thought of and came a close 2nd. Winner didn't go to Cheltenham

      2015 - Cogryhill - Elliott/Cooper 2/7f - (The Storyteller 2nd) - I don't remember this horse, rated 123 at peak.

      2014 - Better Back Bob
      2013 - Doesheeverstop

One that Elliott/Gigginstown clearly have as a starting point for some of their novices but I'd be worried for Commander Of Fleet as an ante post prospect if he rocked up here.

        A 'Boat' Race!

To be fair both Poli Roi and Monbeg Notorious went into their seasons well regarded and if they had lived up to the hype a Cheltenham target may well have materialised, and it doesn't really have an effect on future renewals (but I do always like to look into this angle myself) but at face value it certainly wouldn't have you thinking Supreme that's for sure!

Gordon sees Down Royal as the start to the season proper and looks to send out a message. Willie is usually a few weeks behind.

In general, the first race isn't significant but the second race probably is.

How long until Elliott gets his title Archie?

It has an heir of inevitability...

I love them both so much The fact Elliott is now the back-to-back champion trainer at the festival is mind-boggling.

I think that Gordon needs to diversify or get Gigginstown to invest in more than potential Gold Cup horses. Gordon has a good number of moderate horses who can pick up 5k here and 10k there but the moderate horses take up as much time and effort as the good ones. He has shown what he can achieve with good horses but, by and large, he seems to have a bit of a scattergun approach. Living for the day if you like.
I suppose that the fascination of the situation is that they are so very different in their approach as Willie is well known for working back from the spring festivals with the good horses although, as an owner, you are often wrong-footed by a late change of plan to get the right horse in the right race.

As a by the by, I was at Down Royal in 2016 (to see Airlie Beach grab some more black type) and The Storyteller, who was a talking horse even then, would have won the maiden hurdle comfortably had he not fallen.

I was literally about to say that Archie- re the storyteller!

Also, on Mullins/Elliot title, it's probably fair to say Elliot had a golden opportunity last year, Mullins had a lot of new horses that had been part of the restocking stage after Giggy fallout- this year, a year older and by the looks of things full of talent, it will be very hard for Elliot. Just look at the Cheltenham bumper as an example, Mullins has some very strong young horses coming through. As does Elliot, but i'd say last year was a much better opportunity.

Along with his entry this Friday (as already discussed) Commander of Fleet has 2 other entries this Saturday Down Royal) and Sunday (Cork). Both 2mile maiden hurdles

Kevin Blake's take on the title:
Kevin calls for Horse Racing Ireland to address the sorry shape of the prize money pyramid in Irish racing, before Britain pulls even further ahead.

Rhinestone was listed as the ‘Horse to follow’ in the Racing Post stable tour today.

He hit the nail on the head with regards to Samcro and his Champion Hurdle tilt - "As exciting as it is when a horse with his ability goes novice chasing, one can’t help but think that some connections have left Championship races over hurdles behind them by being too quick to send their top-class hurdling prospects over fences".
