Done loads wrong, finished well, couldn't be confident about him for this race on that back of that though, not to mention his overall profile for a race of this nature.

Out of interest - What's the problem with his over all profile?

I was pleased with that and think he’ll come on a bundle for the run and a step up in trip. Think he will be a player at the least.

I thought he looked pretty good tbh. Just my view, but I thought he'd learn a lot from that and with the benefit of that run would be a contender in a division where nothing has really stood out yet.

Lack of runs, racecourse experience, hurdles experience, all of which, for me, add up to big negatives for a race like this. I think he has the potential be a fantastic horse eventually, but with regards to the festival, I couldn't have him after that. Will be interesting to see where he goes next as it's taken an age just to get him out this time, and looks ground dependent.

Dickie Diver ran very well against eventual 1st & 3rd who themselves brought some decent form into the race. DD pulled in the early stages , a little flat footed at a few hurdles and given sympathic ride by Barry till vigorous hands and heels after the last.

He absolutely flew after the last giving the impression better to come over further and with more experience. Taking first run but Cheltenham might come a little bit to soon in his career , certainly in note book for next seasons RSA.

Yeah - I read your stats. I tend to go more on my own visual impression but I take your point regarding his inexperience. I have taken some 25's each way because I think that's a stupid price when you look at what might actually turn up here and their relative experience.

Well Dickie Diver is a definitely a stayer; green as grass up the home straight then stayed on like a train after the last. Wonder if they’ll try and get a couple more runs into him then go for Aintree rather than Cheltenham

Lets be honest, this has to be one of the hardest races at the festival. I didn't have a clue last year and the same applies this year. Not a bad performance, but I guess there is something looming somewhere.

I’m surprised Kateson is still the price he is HF, he’s the value in this for me as things stand with the race already mooted as a likely target, which can’t be said for many of the market leaders. I backed him - and Brewinupastorm for the Ballymore - based on their performance behind Champ which I really liked, in a race that suited neither. Good luck with him! And well done for getting Betway to take a bet!

I know it's cliche but were he trained by Mullins or Elliot and not Philip Dempsey I think he would be a lot shorter. Other than At Fishers Cross and Bob's Worth this race tends to be a waste land for short priced favourites so happy to look away from the front of the market which includes quite a few Mullins/Elliot horses that remain untested over 3m. Derrinross is clearly enjoying his racing over 3m having won a Grade 3 at Cork beating Sams Profile who I thought ran well finishing second over too short a trip in the Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle. Derrinross then went on to win a Grade 2 over 3m giving weight away at Limerick beating Defi Bleu. Taken from Sportinglife 'The Limerick contest, registered as the Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle and formerly run at the Guiness Novice Hurdle, has produced a long list of high-class winners since its inception in 2003, with the likes of Weapon's Amnesty, Faugheen, Martello Tower, Up For Review and Penhill winning in recent season'.

I debated backing this now as I don't think his price would be too different but Dempsey has said 'if he gets soft ground he could run at the Dublin Racing Festival', so I decided to get on now as he won't be under the radar with a good performance there. He'll want soft ground at Cheltenham, but this relatively unexposed imposing 7 year old is definitely a player so happy to take 20/1 with the the AB definitely being the plan.
