I've just re-watched the Grade 1 they contested and Getabird was tanking in front, that one error at the last, the worst time to make an error, cost him and the run in @ Limerick isn't particularly long either. I can't believe even the most hardened of Hardline fans would think he would have beat Getabird without that mistake, surely?

So, that said, what price is Getabird for this race IF he had won @ Limerick?
Agree. Getabird is top notch but I'd prefer him over 2m. That Limerick form is just about the best on offer they pulled well clear of the rest.

    • Genuine question though, what price do you think he would be had he won @ Limerick?

      • 4/1?

The left handed thing and last years flop would be a factor, and the potential Arkle route...?

He hung right again at Limerick when beaten by Hardline. I just can't have him at those prices. He probably doesn't travel across anyway so it's a moot point imo

Left handed thing is of cause for concern still, same was said for Bellshill but he coped plentiful on his seasonal debut @ Leopardstown. Also, Getabird is 10 runs into his career, including his PTP, only 2 have been at left-handed tracks, I suspect for good reason, but it's still only a small sample of evidence that I struggle to have as a major factor just yet.

I am going to put it out there that given the way he went over 2m @ the festival last season that they may be inclined to up him in trip, Vautour style, for his novice chasing.

            • Getabird would have won but he would have been in a battle. Hardline latched on and stuck his head down. Will love the hill

I'd disagree about it being a 'moot point', he is still entered, all the while he is entered he can come over.

NRNB means it can be open for discussion until they actually pull the plug on him coming over.

                • It's not like Willie has too many novice chasers to pick from either for the Arkle/JLT. Getabird has had 2 runs and he may just be worth the risk of sticking on the boat.

                  • I’ve thought Getabird has jumped fantastically AND straight on his chases outside of the error at the last

But my fingers were incredibly burnt last year so I have reservations about backing him

                    • Surprised he doesn't have an entry at the DRF.

I agree about his jumping, and can also understand the reservations too.

He isn't entered. No entries have been made yet.

Yeah, apologies, I meant all the while it's a possibility, my bad.

                            • Donoghue didn't use the whip on Hardline. Hands and heels, easy

Getabird hung right he almost went through the rail.

They haven't entered him in the graded races at Leopardstown in Feb (unless I've missed him) so that suggests to me they aren't going left handed again this season.

Entries are out in a couple of weeks ago we won't have to wait long to find out.
