Yep, that would be biggest doubt,
but it ought to be good to soft at worst. i.e unlikely to be good on thursday first race as they would normally water the other course if it's been dry. RSA a different matter ground wise.
Be a battle between trainer and owners if normal cheltenham ground then I reckon.

that last comment, where was that said as he didn;t say that on RUK, he said he'll stay all day and that suits his style of racing but he has the speed for shorter, when lydia pushed him for JLt or RSA he politley declined to comment.

Just seen it on RP, looks like exact same interview but slightly fake news on the part of the journalist,

        • Just spoke to my best mate who is in contact with one of the owners and every time he asks him (asked him to ask again after that interview) the response is the same ‘JLT is the plan’. Fully appreciate of course that plans can change.

Being in a good position in the RSA already without a bean on him for that race I very much hope this is the case though . I’m in a position where I’d rather him miss the Festival than head there ... haha

          • Suggests it's their plan not his. Just like last season. I think he sees him as a Gold Cup horse and wants to look after him.

Thanks for the update RC. Music to my ears if that's the case as i'm also only on him for this race.

I really would be surprised if they went for the RSA with him. Never raced beyond 2m5 and the Scilly Isles is a likely target next time out which i'd imagine would be his final run before March. Don't get me wrong I have no doubt he will be able to cope with 3 miles and see him going that way next year onwards but he'd have never tried the trip (I was about to write can't imagine many runners let alone winners have done similar but see Lord Windermere did in 2013). For me the JLT looks there for the taking where as it's obvious the RSA is stacked with quality opposition.

Purely me speculating but the RSA would be last in the list for what happens in March imo with him bypassing the festival slightly above a JLT bid, both higher up the list than taking in the RSA.

I don't think I've ever been happier with a comment on here RC. Hero

Yes Quevega it was/is on RP. Fake news is good news for me! Wouldn't be the first time!

The Gold Cup-winning trainer added: "Today was a test for him and I'm happy to go up another Grade with him. Cheltenham was the aim last season, but he had sore shins and that's why I stopped.
"Chasing was always going to be his game, as that his why we went straight from a bumper to a hurdle race. I always felt this was going to be a good season for him. The RSA will be a possibility. Cheltenham is not the be all and end all for me. At the end of it the long-term future of this horse is important to me, as I think he can go a long way."

Bar your mates word, indicators seem to be pointing RSA at the minute. Trainer comments, market prices and maybe even today’s run shaped like it

Could all be smoke and mirrors to land a juicy one lads

                      • He looking after Vindication as I see it , definately Gold Cup material next year on this performance. With that in mind Bailey would also know its shaping up like a redhot RSA , and would the JLT be the easier option , simple answer is yes.Plan A may change should anything happen to Santini , Next Destination or Delta Work.
Wouldnt put anyone off for JLT or RSA if you fancy him though any race probably safest option.

Any race the least safe. As if he dosent run you've obviously done your dough.

Hey Bobby good to have this balance. Certainly makes it clear Cheltenham is no foregone conclusion. To be fair the point I have tried to make is that it is a possibility though from what I had heard. And as I’m sure Archie can testify planned targets can change at any time, so whatever I hear via one of the owners is certainly not taken as gospel. Again that’s why having the cash out option is great. Fingers crossed I get word first if the Festival is skipped or the target is indeed the RSA. I don’t take the ‘RSA is a possibility’ quote as confirmation that is the target as it depends how the question was asked. Clearly the way he stays it must be an option of course. No doubt this conversation will continue to run...looking forward to it

                              Unless you've backed with 365.

If they're NRNB, even if Trainer says 'he won't run' they won't push him out unless he's actually OUT.

We'll all be ahead of the game.

I'm personally not going to back him for the RSA though

That's why I just said any race is least safe.
