  • After being put up by GL on Up the Ante, you can say goodbye to any 3/1 on Boum tomorrow.

FWIW I do still think you are fav looking at all the selections.
Haha, to turn that around, that's two people literally paid to do it as a job, and I am on here as much as I can be, reading people put up completely contrasting arguements

Joking aside, I'll try a lot harder for the next ones, I've been a bit dismissive, since I thought it was pathetic putting up Zanahiyr in week 4 at 6/1 fav.... so uninspiring.... ironically, it's that selection that looks the best now ...and of course week 2, Galvin as 6/1, when we all know that got absolutely walloped from 20/1...

      • Some great picks by all. What might be fun next year, is kev to take on gavin and have another member renowned for their knowledge (not me by any stretch haha) to take on Dave and go selection by selection, so pressure of Kev to pick so many.
        have 2v2 and individuals too
I have to say as well as watching upping the ante I can’t wait to get over on the site to see who kev has picked

        • Only an idea as the current format also works

To be fair, I should probably have only had the same number as picks as their max, rather than the combined... could work in my favour, or could leave me loads of NRs.

Yeah I still don’t get why you’re picking their combined number of selections. I know it wasn’t you that decided the rules. It should have been you v DJ v GL

              • Yes think that was part of my thinking. Would loved to have seen your profit v each of theirs, which could only come with same number of picks! Plus they generally only have one per race, which would make it bit more pressured.
donlove current format and definitely one of my favourite new pages to be added this year. It will just be you be both combined

Haha, well I'm glad you've enjoyed it.

I am sure it can be tweaked going ahead.

It's so different to how I actually go about it (making profit) which is all in my diary obviously.

What I've learnt is that if I was having one per race, I'd be picking the most solid looking option after the ship had sailed, but in reality if you are that selective and get it right, you can have some nice spots. It'd be way to boring for me... but I know others do it and do it very well.

                  • Yeah I have to say I prefer your way! Whilst I know once they’ve given their selection it is locked in! But I’d rather them give another if they think theirs doesn’t possibly have a chance anymore and have something better lined up at a price!
Your methodology deals with this well and profit is what it is about at end of day for most of us! Although I do confess I do only like to back my favourite horses and won’t cover and won’t hear of them being beaten haha! Stands me in good stead as I’ll pick 3 every year and essentially do a patent on them whereby I win ?1k on singles, ?2k doubles and bit more on treble! Never had treble in, but often had the double
this years are shishkin envoi and monkfish funnily enough! Also went a bit crazy at xmas when o thought honeysuckle was going to go champion hurdle and 16-1 was greatest gift 2020 had to offer

                        • I could never have forseen DJ or GL coming up with School Boy Hours, so it is now somewhat frustrating that I never managed to get the full position on him that I wanted.

Into 16's best price now! I'll probably still back him again, as I think he has a real solid chance on form lines with RWF.

                              • Upping the ante is a great watch isn't it? I think Gavin Lynch is excellent and for me, it adds greatly in the build up to Cheltenham in addition to this forum.
