  • With big question marks over others at the top of the betting, I'd have thought that 6/1 (a couple at 7/1) is a very fair price.

You seem to like her a lot Archie. Do you think she could be his main dart now ? If so , as we know, 6/1 will soon become 6/4.

I've no inside knowledge but it's my standard practice to go through this market as soon as it's available to see which are with Willie. Being owned by Kenny Alexander is another tick. I've no idea how she compares with Hook Up at home but the PP odds and Willie's quotes tend to back up the view that she's a serious contender. I liked the way she picked up immediately on the turn in and then basically put the race to bed with the minimum of fuss. I wouldn't be too worried about the occasional jump to the right.
All in all, I'm pleased to have her in my trebles at 12/1.

        • Here here Archie. Cheers to Kev I think it was for talking about the Honeysuckle Gauloise double! That could be quite tasty come the day

          • Gjoumi entered again against the boys on boxing day. She could be decent if she learns to settle.

Good to see she is none the worse for falling last time out.

Certainly haven't given up on her yet.

It's a quiet time for me between October and Christmas, but I'm always on the lookout for a gem at tasty odds, and I added one such horse today in Santa Rossa for the Mares Novice Hurdle at 50/1 with cashout. She was 20/1 for the same race last year, but it came too soon for her because she was late starting out. Then Covid struck before she had chance to advertise her very worthy credentials.

She'll fly under the radar until she goes and wins against a Mullins/Elliott hype horse somewhere, but she's already got very useful form worth taking notice of. She comfortably beat Elliott's Bigbadandbeautiful in the Grade 2 bumper at the DRF at Leopardstown and that one highly rated by Elliott is currently half her price for this race. Just beaten in the 'boys' Grade 2 at the Aintree Festival by McFabulous, with the like of Master Debonairre behind her, she was a very useful bumper horse good enough to only be beaten by 4 lengths in the Irish Champion Bumper, also against the boys such as Abracadabras and Embittered.

She had one spin over hurdles last season before Covid struck last season beaten closely by Jon Snow (4 out of 4 in novice hurdles and rated 145 since then), and Exit Poll (just touched off by Andy Dufresne in his recent novice chase), when both had fitness and experience on their side. That rates as really useful novice hurdles form for a horse that was entitled to come on for the race after 9 months off after a minor issue.

The fact that she's a second season novice like Concertista was last season can often be really useful at Cheltenham. We've seen many such horses win over the years. Also she looks like a genuine two miler that will appreciate a fast pace. She see's her races out really well, but has gears too. She's not your typical bumper horse that is likely to need further. Her breeding also suggests the minimum trip is right for her.

Add to that her underrated trainer Dermot O'Loughlin, who I like a lot and I've no problem preparing one for the big occasion. He does exceptionally well with his small string, and has a great strike rate with his better horses.
Just combing through my book and spotted I'd still got Santa Rossa backed, has anyone who backed cashed her out? I can cash for a 0.1pt loss. Still no entries and 50s still available to take if an entry is forthcoming.

....still in my book too, Ryan. I need to give mine a good haircut and cash-in some like Santa Rossa. Fear is they come out and sluice up, but as you say the fancy prices are still available and the ‘win today’ offers can actually provide a price boost if they do run.

                  • With all this talk of Galouise, I’m surprised no one is mentioning skyace who would be 25lbs better on a line through Global Equity. She’s certainly in my book.

Not sure how you make 25lbs? Gauloise has come out and won again in a better race plus the initial 5 lengths compared to the 10 skyace won by, can be argued by lack of full extension late in the race.

Admittedly brings Queens Brook back into consideration as was a head down vs skyace & then ran creditably against the older horses

We're all entitled to view the form-lines in whatever way we like but that seems a little over simplistic to me. The relevant races were Gauloise's hurdles debut (Global Equity's third hurdles race) and Skyace's 8th hurdles race (Global Equity's 4th). Also, Skyace was winning over 2m4f (breeding suggests that distance would suit) and Gauloise at 2m which is more appropriate for Cheltenham.
I'd prefer Gauloise but I wouldn't be knocking the price of Skyace.

On a line through Politesse a similar thing could be said of Mickey Quinn’s mare v Skyace who I think is also available in a place at 25s. You can go on and on with this stuff. Imo Queens Brook wouldn’t see which way Gauloise went over 2 miles.

                          • Agreed. Think QB would be better off going to the AB

Wondering this myself Kev. Seeing no entries, a cashout of only 0.1pt loss and still 50s available. Leaning towards cashing
