Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

For day one I'd say almost definitely, dry Tue/Wed will see drying ground and Thur could start off soft but that's about as quick as I think the ground will get now...

It is now raining but not heavily. You can have very different weather around here either side of Cleeve Hill.

      • Has the weather brought down anyone's buzz a bit?

For me Cheltenham is the cold spring, sun over the Cleeve, good ground. Big mudbath for the whole thing. Ugh

Yeah, I was so excited last week... even yesterday I was still optimistic despite the weather conditions. However, I feel deflated today.
I think the Altior news was the final nail in the coffin.

I would have loved for it to have been soft this year, would have made a change on previous years were we have had fast spring ground. However, heavy, testing dead ground.... meh!!! They're going to be crawling up the hill as the ground starts to cut up.

Oh well, think I just need to be at cheltenham now

Yeah it has killed a bit of the excitement for me. Not too bothered from betting perspective as you can work around it, I would rather know what it is one way or another, rather than it being variable on the day based on the weather, like it can be during the flat season for example.
However, from the perspective of enjoying the racing and horses performances, the edge has definitely been taken off due to the weather and ground unfortunately

Yes I'd be lying if I said it hadn't. I'm hoping it'll all come flooding back to me once the action gets underway but right now all I can think about is how miserable it is that the Festival is going to be run on heavy ground.

F@!K the weather, I sure when people get there and the pints start to flowing it will be a great festival, I know I will be rat arses before the first flag goes down in my local..

I know the rain has ruined a good few bets and the mood for everyone, but just put on your wellies and go and find a few muddy puddles and jump around, it always makes my kids happy...

                  • Not for me...

Ground is the same for all the horses ... it isn't like we haven't got soft/heavy ground form to go off for the entire autumn/winter!...

People might say there will be shocks because of the ground, but when is that ever NOT the case anyway. Cheltenham ALWAYS has shocks.

The "losers" because of the weaather are those trainers who have purposfully kept their horses back for better ground, or those who just like better ground.... but on the flip side, that is unfair on horses who prefer a bit of cut. Again, it isn't like we're in the dark about who the ground suits...

Taking day 1 for example, Getabird, Footpad, Buveur D'air and Apple's Jade all like softer ground.... Samcro on day 2 is proven on it as is Next Destination, no problem for Douvan or Altior either... a plus perhaps for both. The list goes on and for every horse who wants genuine good, I could find one who wants soft... we're usually in the middle at good to soft, but it isn't getting me down!

I think we've got it in our heads soft ground is terrible but scratching beneath the surface, I don't think it affects things drastically...

                              • It has finally stopped raining. If the wind could pick up a bit, we might get it back down to soft by the time the Supreme goes off.
