  • Ground of the festival?

So common folks, it looks like we are in for a soft ground Cheltenham. For me, it causes a lot of issues, as all my betting is based on the normal good to soft ground. I just wonder if u will have the same problem. Cant see my 2018 being as good as the past few year's. Trying to remember the past time the festival starred with heavy ground!!

That should be ground for the festival...

Isn't good to soft still big odds on like every year? I'm not sure I'd pay too much attention beyond a 5 day forecast as after that the margin of error is pretty big

It's far too early to tell what the ground will be. Two days of dry weather and it'll be riding on the good side imo

Agree with that Kev. Accuweather forecast is for up to 6 inches of snow between now and Friday (translates to 0.6 inches of precipitation) and then pretty negligible rain up to and through the meeting with daily temps in the 8-10c range throughout. Can see people complaining about poor grass growth but g/s has to be favourite (and possibly watering the weekend before)

I guess it depends what forecast u look at. The one I am looking at isn't great.

I wou;dn't worry about your bets just yet.... forecasting is exactly that... a forecast - and isn't accurate.

Sometimes it can be wrong on the day...

Put your time in to other pastures .... OR, consider a NRNB accy on heavy ground horses?

I think it will be soft or the slow side of good to soft
Other than Might Bite, I’m in a decent position in terms of ground - not relying on many good ground horses

I’ve gone in with NRNB on American and starting to load up on UDS

Whatever it is, Claisse calls it 'Good to Soft', on the first day.

A 3 day monsoon and Bristol De Mai gets supplemented in

I know it is 2 weeks away
But is anyone concerned about the possibility of the frost covers going down ?
This happened a few years ago and when they were removed for racing it provided dead ground
                          Just a thought

Wasn't it heavy last time I looked a while back . It's been chucking it down since then so I can't imagine its dried out since. The forecast weather is bad as we all know . The ground staff will be putting down covers and matting and do a heroic job to produce the best possible surface. Fresh ground is under wraps so at least it won't be cut up rough not until after the 3rd race anyway! It looks like Very soft or Heavy to me fellas.

I live less than a mile from the course and will happily provide updates over the next couple of weeks. There has been virtually no rain here for a week now but it has been cold with heavy overnight frosts in the last couple of days, which are due to persist until the weekend. There has been a dusting of snow this morning. There are no covers on the course as there is snow forecast overnight Thursday into Friday. It is then due to warm up a bit but no immediate sign of the spring weather that Claisse wants for the grass to grow. As the frost comes out of the ground and the snow melts, this is ground is likely to be sticky and holding. Even he won't be daft enough to water it........
