Of course, I always aspire to achieve nice profit too, but having been playing this game for many years now the reality is that it is not quite as simple as that sounds.

There was a time where if I hit three winners over the old three days. In those days, it was one horse in every race. In believe it was 2014 when I decided to give it a good old go and really do my homework, as well as my outlay increasing tenfold. It didn't work for the first year, but the last three have been incredible to be honest. I realise my luck can't continue and a bad year is due, but I can't cope with that, as money isn't everything for me. As long as I can cover my four tickets and expenses, then I'm fine, but picking winners at the festival means everything to me. The rest of the year doesn't come close. In is definitely my week of the year, one for the horses, one for the socialising and finally one for leaving her in doors, in doors...

Cheltenham is a year-round (ish) hobby and whilst it is great to make a profit, the first aim is to break even.
Winning or losing isn't going to make or break me financially (unless a Mayo Million Maker comes in!! ) - it's more about having a hobby that I enjoy. (If it pays-out in March - even better).
Like the majority - it's a nice feeling if you pick out the winner 6 months in advance at a juicy price. The actual monetary returns are secondary.

We should arrive mid afternoon Monday. Sort the house arrangements out, couple of hours chat re handicaps, fancies etc. Might be The Beehive or The Retreat Monday night, and then RACING. Hopefully a good day followed by a nice dinner at The Daffodil. And on to the next day.....................
