Is GOLD PRESENT being aimed at the Grand National? Do you think he’ll stay that sort of trip?

He was given an entry, as you know, but as we have learnt from Whisper and Vyta Du Roc this week, it is not set in stone that he’ll run in it. He worked this morning and I’m looking at a 3m race at Ascot on 17th February as his next outing. As for the Grand National trip, we won’t know until we try.

No mention of Cheltenham, so at least we are not going to lose our money.

He certainly has enough scope for the fences but I would prefer him over the shorter trip. Of course that would be next year after winning this year's Ultima.

I am wondering if Henderson is just trying to pee me off. Next thing he will be taking Buveur D'Air out of the Champion.

The Ultima has been a decent stepping stone and a good prep run for the National, could easily see the race coming into play after Ascot. The question was related to the National and then Nicky has highlighted the next run so i wouldn't worry the Ultima never came up in the answer.

Last year he ran:

26 Nov - Doncaster
26 Dec - Kempton
25 Feb - Kempton
14 Mar - Cheltenham
7 Apr - Aintree

This year could be:

2 Dec - Newbury
23 Dec - Ascot
17 Feb - Ascot
13 Mar - Ultima Cheltenham?
14 Apr - Aintree Grand National?

So follow the same pattern and he had a short gap between his festival prep run and the festival. My worry would be that you really wouldn't want to be winning again and getting a higher mark. The current 155 would already be on the very top end of what you would want in this race and most handicaps? Surely and then the only race at the festival would then be the Ryanair?

Ryanair as a Grand National prep? I don't think going up and down in trip is a bright idea, but giving On The Blind Side one Cheltenham option wasn't the best bit of thinking so who knows?

Would get a big swing in the weights with Gold Present even after he goes up from yesterday?

Personally, I can't see him as a National horse. If anything he is too good a jumper as you can brush through plenty these days. It's also a big step from Ryanair entries to a National. Wouldn't be surprised if around three miles was his limit. He isn't that old is he so what's the hurry? Likely he gets a biggish weight this year or next year.

I heard Hendo say it on the MNR podcast. The grand national is worth so much money these days that it looks like that'll be the number 1 aim.

The way he took to the fences (before he fell) in the Topham last season makes me think he'll have a great chance in the national.....

3 pts on their way back for Gold Present then for me..... somewhat relieved as I felt I had to back him because he'd be shorter (based on his cracking form working out) rather than really fancying him.

Down to just Singlefarmpayment any race at 22/1 now and I don't think he's a certain runner? Any news on him after pulling up? i can't recall it?

Im hoping he runs here FM as I really fancy him for this race. The worry is that he's being laid out for the Nash.
