    That's huge after 2 runs!
Just out of interest is modus chase mark based on his hurdle form or is that official 156

He's deffinately worth a mention for the jlt. Small fields but he sprinted away after the last. His jumping can always improve.

Can't be official on what he has done over fences so far...

I never really liked Modus as a hurdler albeit how much I like a horse has no effect on its ability

      • Sceau Royal is 1/20 tomorrow in a two horse race.

Last 3 winners have been Ptit Zig, Bristol De Mai and Top Notch. That is the most interesting thing I can muster up about the 'race.'

He's definitely worth a mention for the jlt. Small fields but he sprinted away after the last. His jumping can always improve.
He was either racing against ponies the other day, or he’s a beast.
I was impressed with him, looks like he’ll make a decent chaser. I think he has always been well thought of and it will be interesting to see how he progresses this year.

          • Was really taken with Footpad on debut... jumped beautifully and you'd have to be pretty confident he will be as least as good over fences.

But he's been readily outspeeded in both a Triumph and a Champion Hurdle now and that would be an issue for me. I thought he looked a perfect JLT type, but have seen Willie's quotes that they will try to make an Arkle horse out of him. Think this will be a mistake myself... 2m on good ground just doesn't look likely to bring out the best of him.

            • Hadn't thought to look back at Footpad's end of races ... the one that sticks out is when he was closing down in Ireland though, although you can argue he was doing his best work at the end after being out paced and stayed on?

Still, best race or not, would have a chance in both on what we've seen so far!

              • Outpaced and stayed on is exactly how I'd describe them mate!

                • Simple enough for Sceau Royal earlier. Does jump well and quickly.

Can't quite work out why he is still 25-1, when North Hill Harvey is only 16-1... When only beat by a neck giving 5lbs.

                  • Sceau Royal definitely improving , Simon Munir certainly targets this race with his good uns. Same ownership as Footpad , cant see them both Arkle bound.

Interesting point that. With Sceau Royal never being tried over further and Footpad’s best hurdle form arguably coming over further is there a chance the owner pulls rank? Were Footpad to go to the JLT then I’d certainly be all over Finian’s for the Arkle (and surely connections would then see this race as just as winnable if not more than JLT. I think he’d have the beating of Petit Mouchoir and don’t see any of the others as genuine win contenders

                      • I don't think Munir/Suede mind having multiple runners in the same race

Regardless I’ve still got nagging doubts about Footpad (though I do have him covered any race).. Most impressive novice jumping round we’ve seen so far but you’d think one of the other main contenders will be able to match that by March and put in a near foot perfect round. When push came to shove over hurdles he seemed to be found wanting... I’d be worried about him coming up the hill, not Finian’s in the slightest

I had always said I'd be surprised if Footpad doesn't go for the JLT over the Arkle, as his general 2m runs mostly seemed to find him running on or never nearer and I think the same would apply for the Arkle for him. That said, as Kev said, I don't think Munir/Suede would care about having 2 horses in one race, they done it 2 seasons ago in the JLT!

2m racing post novice chase at leopardstown over Christmas up next for footpad. A good win should take him 7/2 < for the arkle.

I agree Scooby. Not much strength in depth at this stage. I think Petit Mouchoir looks the value at double the price of Footpad. But can't bring myself to back him until we know he's ok.
