Originally posted by ComplyOrDie View PostI look at Faugheen, and yes, I know he's a hurdler, but he has the turn of foot for the 2m game, that's why he is arguably the best 2m hurdler around, you need a turn of foot over 2m, whether jumping hurdles or fences and like Petit Mouchoir, Finian's Oscar has that turn of foot, although this is another reason, that despite what Willie says, Footpad will go for the JLT, but that's for another day ;-)
I see it like arctic fire against faugheen in the champion hurdle .
Iv backed him for this and the jlt but i cant see him winning the arkle at all if footpad / petit mouchoir line up.https://scooby91horseracingtips.com/

Arkle still odds on favourite as his target imo
"He's very smart this one, it was a messy race again and he was a little bit brave. I knew Barry was going to try and pounce on me if I didn't jump the last.
"He picked up well, though, and he's plenty of boot, he's two out of two (over fences) and can only get better.
"Unfortunately things have dried up for me in Ireland so to get on good horses like this, I'm very lucky."
Tizzard said: "He looked like he'd lost it, but then he jumped the last on a long stride and stayed on beautifully.
"He's opened up more doors today as that was a slowly-run two and a half miles so you would not rule him out of the Arkle.
"He was waiting for it to happen last time, but Bryan was more positive today. He jumped better than at Chepstow. In the end he's won quite cosily and he always has something left in the locker.
"Nothing fazes this horse and afterwards he was hardly blowing. He's a beautiful creature and you've got to remember he was giving 8lb to good horses."
Looking to options at the Festival in March, he said: "The JLT is attractive at this stage, but a fast-run Arkle might as well and that is the more prestigious race. I think with how he quickened up, he could be an Arkle horse but we don't need to decide that yet.
"Everyone connected will love that and it's magical moment for everyone concerned."
Joe Tizzard added: "He's a horse we hope will grow into a Gold Cup horse, but he doesn't need to be running over extreme distances. He showed a cracking turn of foot off the back of two out. It was a lovely performance."

I know that might sound daft but the slower they go, the worse hes jumping at the moment. When he went a stride quicker he jumped much better.
Finian's Oscar is clearly a classy animal, I think that is hard to deny.... I just hope we get to see it.
The thing with him is, he's still a backable price ... I appreciate people fancy Footpad and Petit Mouchoir (as I do to...) but it isn't lke 12/1 is a bad price still!
There aren't many grade 1 hurdlers, unbeaten over fences that are 12/1 ... if he was fav at the moment, of course its a different story.
He'll never be a proper 2 miler in my opinion, will never contest an open company grade 1 over 2m .... but he has the class to compete in it, and some really talented horses can do that...

Just watched the race back a couple of times and I think I'm back in the confident camp.... I think they'll now know that he can't hot the front before the last... he went past Coo Star Sivola on the bridle and then Barry who was stalking pounced and tried to knick the race.... FO, giving 8 lbs has picked him up easily and I think he would have done over 2m, 2m4 or 3m....
In the Arkle, something will be classier than Coo Star Sivola and give Finian's Oscar a stronger pace to travel at, and he'll be asked to pick up and he will.... I actually believe the same about Altior! Altior gets asked for his effort and gives it and away he goes, but it isn't 'push button acceleration'. I think Altior would be a force over further, but we've never seen it... it is like he's had the opposite start to his career as Altior.
I hope both end up with the same result.... I'm obviously not surprised that he's been cut to 7/1 fav for the JLT ... but being trimmed to 10s for this to me is still well worth a go! The interview after still screams Arkle to me and I do think he could do it. Petit Mouchoir and Footpad are closely matched, but they've only beaten Brelade and Finian's Oscar would be odds on as well to put Brelade away.... so until we get a way to see them matched up, I think too much is being given to the fact that PM and Footpad ran in a CH.... albeit I am not knocking them at all, as I have backed both!
All isn't lost...as it was when I over reacted on first view this afternoon
