I suppose it all depends on how fit PM actually was today. Is FP ground dependent?
Although his best form is on soft ground, i'm not overly concerned about good ground for him, particularly as he is such a young horse so I wouldn't want to make a judgement yet. Certainly not until how he gets on on better ground in the Spring festivals in what looks his best discipline.

Watching back on some his rides, in particular on better ground - Irish champion hurdle (1L defeat by Petit Mouchoir), Triumph Hurdle (3rd), Champion Hurdle (4th) and Champion Stayers Hurdle (3rd) the ground doesn't look to have hindered him. Held up in all races, sometimes very far back he's always travelled nicely and picked up very well, without looking outpaced on the ground. For me it was just his ceiling over hurdles rather than the ground holding back.

    • I think Petit Mouchoir needed the race and @ 7s e/w would be a better bet than footpad at Evs..

      • Really happy with that from Petit Mouchoir today.

He clattered a few, but will improve for that massively, and may well do what he does best when they get to the festival and go from the front!

You have to be happy CoD. He may not turn the tables but I think get gap between them in the market at the moment is far too big.

          • Davy Russell, rider of Petit Mouchoir, said: “We were a bit disappointed because at the start of the season we thought we had the best but it seems there’s one better than us. He made two early mistakes and that put manners on him.”

It's sounds like Davy is pretty downbeat after that performance, maybe they felt like they had him pretty tuned up!

            • Up to you but I would take everything Russell says with a huge dollop of salt. Rest assured they would have been pleased with that performance.

When he says 'We' does he mean Gigginstown or HdB? Because HdB had already said he will come on for the run and not to expect too much today, plus he wasn't given a hard time by Davy anyway.

Just as a reminder from last season, wasn't it also Russell that said Phil Smith had given Presenting Percy a ridiculous rating for the Pertemps last year? How did that go?

                • Had small ante post wager on PM , happy with that. He was obviously very fresh as pre race he was bucking and kicking like a rutting stag , then the first two fences he went through fences rather than over them. To actually finish where he did was a great performance ,I fully expect to see a different horse next time out.

                  • Lovely performance from Footpad. Brilliant jumping bar the bit of a peg at the last. Hes so quick and straight over a fence.
Cant have him beaten in the arkle.

I hope that's the case, I personally cant see the form being reversed at all. And i have both.

I hope that's the case too as I've a very nice double with Footpad and Might Bite on at big prices at the minute!!

Iv got a ridiculous ammount on footpad 16/1 any race / 33/1 arkle. Which would put me well in profit for the whole festival after the 2nd race

The main thing is them all getting there. That's like winning a race in itself

                              • I can't believe the price Petit Mouchoir still is. 6/1 1/4 BOG NRNB is about as solid an each way bet as you could get. Already on PM anyway but whether he gets closer to footpad or not, the next in the betting are Sceau Royal who hasn't been impressive, Saint Calvados who has a lot to prove still and Brain Power who has got a rubbish prep and concerns about the track.

                                Footpad
                                Petit Mouchoir
                                Saint Calvados

Would be an ideal result haha. I'd still rather have NHH at 16/1 over Sceau Royal though back at Cheltenham

Footpad was an excellent shout from you scooby very early on. I have similar prices but doesn't pay for my week unfortunately
