    The ones that can.
Take all the offer and price boosts while you can. Won't be long until you get all the first race each day £25 money back as a free bet consession. I believe a couple did it to a smaller ammount for the last race aswell.
Sun B of which I'm no longer a customer. Did some excellent price boosts for the smaller size punter at there live preview night. Turned douvan from 1/4 to 4/1. And were 3 times the price on many other well fancied horses . Might be worth a watch.
Betway have done it for a tenner on the last race for the last couple of seasons I think, huge fan of these offers

I normally do one horse per race, sometimes every race, only if a horse is not doing so well during the season I might have another in that race, I am not like most anti post gamblers here, as I normally wait and see the horses run once or twice before I go in.

I never get really amazing prices like some but I normally gets a run for my money and a few winners each year.

I think Beyway offered £10 as a free bet if you lose on the first or last race each day last year?

I only ask the question because it seems as if anytime a horse wins there's about five people who have already got a 20/1+ bet on it?
I could do that but id be alot more nervous than I am currently. And especially about injuries. And would be in no way guaranteed to make profit.
I try to get all the ones that I believe can win at there biggest prices. And still leave me atleast 3/1 on the race.

A mid range race and a fair example would be.
          Ballymore iv staked 6.1 pts
Only 3pts of that is on samcro 1.5pts 14/1 any race 1.5 pts 16/1 ballymore

3.1pts of that is on miscellaneous bets that cover all the ones I believe could have or still can win at big prices. Some are or will be NR on exchange bets.
If samcro wins admittedly iv lost value. And I'll hold my hands up. But until the day I'm trouble free

Sky gave me a free £50 bet each day last year, not sure that would have been put to everyone but a great offer.

I hate that bookies go out of their way to attract business with excellent offers for Cheltenham when everyone knows they will restrict/close your account if you play for more than a fiver.
I tried 888 before Christmas, deposited £1k, had 4 bets showing a mammouth profit of £52 and I received 3 e-mails saying my account had BOG removed, no multiples were allowed followed by account was restricted, these e-mails all landed within about 10 mins of each other.

They're not alone, but it makes the offers and scramble for business pointless....

The only thing I miss is that sky offer. And getting the preview prices as it's limited stakes I think they should give it to all but ..... I can get the sportsbook ones on the preview night.

You not restricted by Sportsbook ?
You are in an elite group there Scooby, they want everyone on the exchange so have been restricting punters for a long time, and that strategy has been extended to Paddy Power who have gone from being a respected bookmaker to a joke/gimmick outfit

This is my approach - I bet £5 per point at Cheltenham (tried £10 last year and came a bit unstuck). I have 4 points per race. For eg, I got £20 on 10s for Samcro in the Ballymore. That's that race ticked off as far as I'm concerned. I found if I didn't I ended up chasing my tail and doing all chasing bets whenever any horse won a trial race last year.

I have to say, each to their own, but I thought a point should be a certain division of your betting bank - i.e the max you have is 100? So I get confused when I see people saying they've laid down a million points! But then I'm a very low level stakes bettor really so whatever gets you to profit I guess. As much as everyone's explained it, I don't think I could work that approach with my lifestyle!

They restricted me. I am the classic £5 punter they're after and checking my account I wasn't even in profit with them. No offers of BOG for me. Bizarre stuff

Good call. I spend alot of time, too much time. And i wont have the time next year with all being well my child being born. Nrnb starts so early now my plan will be to wait for that.

                      • I just do it for fun, but did put some hours in the last few years trying to guess where horses were going etc.

This year I'm too busy, so have done a lot more bets 'any race', and I have a mixed bag.

I treat it as a thrift club, but one that might not pay out more than I put in

I think the big difference appears to be that although I would love to get the winner of every race my realistic aim is to make a profit over the meeting, rather than per individual race. Usually, if I can get 3-4 winners then we are in profit territory.

For instance I have backed a loser with Real Steel in the Supreme so if I wanted to clear the loss the easiest thing would be to back Getabird but at this stage who is that interested in a 5/2 shot?

As I said it is final result that counts, not the way you achieve it.

                          • Went to do that treble on mine, and they let me have a quid... Got the old man to check his, and they let him have a ton, so I have £101 on

I actually think the opposite... I consider the journey as the entertainment that I pay for along the way... if I finish level I'd be happy, as that is (currently 796 pts) more than I had at the start of the week!!! If I won literally nothing, it'd sound awful (and would be) ... but that isn't really realistic and I still would justify how much time and enjoyment I've had as par for the course...

I've posted in greater detail about my approach elsewhere on the forum and how it has changed, but 2010/11/12/13/14 I was similar to above and had a set amount per race I Was happy to lose ... I broke it for exceptional circumstances.... like Sprinter Sacre, Big Bucks, Quevega, Pont Alexandre (basically anything short that I fancied) ...

I've completely changed now to in some cases creating a book, although in others I still only have a couple of horses. (For example, it'd be near impossible for me to create a book in the bumper, or Foxhunters)

I do think it is incredibly important to still keep the mindset of "picking 1 horse to win" though... otherwise the actual sport loses its interest... whether you back that up or not, I do always always try to make sure I know who I think will win. Whether I back that depends on the price, because the price would be so incredibly important.

                              • Interesting debate this.

Whilst I only bet one or two horses, I’d still say I’m more like Kev. The entertainment and enjoyment of it is great. I would like to think from the position I’ve got myself in, I’ll make a decent profit from here though.
