  • 2017 To Win Any Race

Not sure if I am allowed to start a new post and not sure if there is one like this, but whilst looking at a few markets tonight I saw a few that I thought are interesting...

    Black Hercules at 7/1
After winning the JLT, priced at 8/1 for the Ryanair, this must be a likely target. If he ends up in the Gold Cup he'll probably start double the price, but for 1pt less for the Ryanair to have at least a run for your money I wouldn't be devastated.

    Altior 3/1
I just mentioned in the Arkle thread that if he gets confirmed for it he'll probably shorten. If he was going to shorten to 4/1 then 3/1 any race gives you a little bit of comfort in that he might get switched back to hurdles where he would be a similar price? (Personally I tihnk 5s is worth the risk right now but still interesting)

    Barters Hill 14/1
I know there is some big love for this beast on the forum, and 14's does seem really good for any race as he could potentially turn up in the JLT, RSA or 4 miler... Surely single figures whereever he goes?!

    Faugheen 7/4
Interesting because if he goes to regain the CH, you'd assume AP doesn't, leaving him to just beat up the Mullins 2nd/3rd strings and if he gets aimed at the World Hurdle, he has NO opposition at the moment. I think the Mullins/Ruby/Ricci factor would see him punted off at odds on ... so as long as he turns up I think you're going to have beaten SP. Both targets seem viable and Mullins holds the key in both and they won't want to beat him themselves?

Ive backed Barters Hill 14/1, BP seems genuinely unsure which distance will be his best so im going to take the headache away.

Ive also done Aux ptit Soins, I think hes more likely to go JLT but again Ive removed the headache, so far this summer they have had a clear run with this fellow and he is going to be one of my biggest bets if i can get enough on.

      Good thread.
These markets are of fat more interest to me these days, though I did climb into K Vic the day before his season ending injury last year so my recors isn't great....

The ones that are priced up won't let you, Skybet has a few request-a-bet markets of multiples, one being, Douvan, Faugheen and Vautour all to win any race at 10/1

I'm not a massive fan of this market as you can't do multiples with in it and some odds are pretty poor, with betfair yorkhill is 7/4 any race as is thistlecrack, I'd rather have the much bigger odds they currently are in their respective markets and risk having them as a looser in one of my Canadians or Heinz bets with the other 4/5 runners going ahead still in the bet

I'd be interested in any negatives for Barters Hill if anyone on the forum doesn't fancy him.... I am absolutely sold and will follow off the cliff at this point BUT always good to get some conflicting views? It is payday for me today so I'll stick a whack on Idadho tomorrow, hope it wins, withdraw my stake and use the winnings to make Barters Hill my big money spinner. (Gotta have a plan?)

Thanks Ista, but no thanks for cursing K Vic, I was on at 20s!

paz, trying to work out just how good/bad that skybet bet is.... If they went off in the 'obvious' races, Faugheen would be close to even, douvan might be 1/2 and Vautour even for the Ryanair.... what is that, about 5/1? .... So that'd make the 10's fairly decent, but the price you can get on that treble now is 28/1 and that is with PaddyPower. I'd rather pop a bet on that now because I would feel if they went for different races the prices would be so much bigger than 10/1 (in the multiple) that you'd still make more staking twice.

gjt, I agree some of the odds look pretty poor on first glance, but I think there are some real live candidates with various targets that are a bigger price now than they will be at SP on the day... in my opinion from my opening post, if they turned up, Faugheen, Barters Hill AND Altior will go off shorter than they are now plus you get the added 'security' of not losing your money, as long as they are in one of the races?

And the riskier markets are always available for this.
As I've said before, so many options for horses and when an army like Ricci/Mullins are prone to changing plans right up until the week I prefer a little more security, but I accept others don't...

Killultagh Vic at 10 for any race might be a good idea.... Not likely to be aimed at anything in particular (a bit like VVM) but was thought good enough for the JLT before getting injured and they won that with Black Hercules?

Could end up in the Ryanair is my thinking where he would be shorter

                    Blow By Blow
Currently 10/1 for any race in case anyone is interested. I found the latest bumper win quite impressive so definitely a horse I'll be following through this season. Moon Racer is running on Thursday, Aspen Colorado won a few days ago and was down the field in that bumper. Looks strong form at this earlyish stage... Billymag mentioned in the Supreme thread that the Punchestown bumper winners usually turn up in that race and gjt mentioned (and he is shorter for) the Neptune. I wouldn't know myself what the target is most likely to be (and not saying that the aforementioned are saying that is definite either) but it'll take the pain of getting it wrong away. Not on myself.

Yes ive had as much as i could get on for BBB any race at 14/1 with BFSB, he has certainly been underrated in my opinion and his bumper form looks as good as any other horse. I could see him doing a Champagne Fever in the Supreme but waiting to see thoughts of connections before backing for an individual race

Feel I've missed a trick there then at only 10s now! If you do hear anything about a target let me know ... All eyes on Moon Racer on Thursday ... Hope he can give BBB a boost.

Alpha Des Obeaux is 7s with Betfair to win any race and he is best priced 8/1 to win the RSA and 7s with Skybet etc...

On the off chance he doesn't take to fences that isn't too bad if anyone is going in on ADO at this stage...

Altior from my opening post at 3/1 doesn't look too bad either now, shame I didn't follow my own advice

Great find on Alpha des Obeaux. I've been tempted with the 8/1 for the RSA but had slight concerns whether he'd stick hurdling again so 7/1 is generous. Considering if they target a hurdle race first time out this season I think his WH odds would be cut to at best 7/1
