Anyone else think that Sizing John could run a good race in the Arkle?
Definitely can't turn the tables on Douvan but one of a few in with a shout of nicking a place.
The hardest thing about this race is trying to find anything other than Douvan who will take his chance in the race, could easily end up with 6 runners...
I hadnt really thought about him LR until my mate, who is a decent judge, pointed out that this race or national looks like being the plan.
Handicap entries are out next week, with the weights published the week after. It's getting close.
It could be a big run at the fest, followed up with another big run in the National. Worked quite well for NM last year. For TYM to have a chance he needs to buck off SMC and get Baz back on board.

Donn does
Sizing John (Henry de Bromhead)
Sizing John is another serious talent who has significant potential. Like No More Heroes, he was a high-class novice hurdler last season, he won the Grade 1 Future Champions' Novice Hurdle at Leoaprdstown in December, and he finished third in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.
He did not have the run of the race in the Supreme. He raced handily from flagfall and he found himself in front at the second last flight, in a race in which it was probably not an advantage to be prominent from early. The first three had it between them from the top of the home straight, nothing else could really get into the race.
Henry de Bromhead's horse was always going to be a better chaser than hurdler. He is built to jump fences and, sure enough, he won his first two chases this season, a beginners' chase and the Grade 2 Craddockstown Chase, impressing with his jumping on each occasion.
He was well beaten into second place by Douvan in the Grade 1 Racing Post Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas, but that was on heavy ground, which does not play to his strengths.
Of course, it is going to be difficult for him to cope with the monster that is Douvan in the Arkle, if he does take his chance in the Arkle, which looks like the race for him rather than the JLT. He has raced against Willie Mullins' horse now four times, and he has been beaten by him four times. However, three of those runs were over hurdles and the one chase was on heavy ground. On good ground over fences, he could get closer to Douvan than he ever has before.
I know you are probably the most pissed member here F_M, but at least your day 1 selections has been made a tiny bit easier.
This is racing at the end of the day, I have lost 4 digit$ due to the Faugheen and AP stir up, but the good news is we only have a few weeks to go before the off.
Thanks LR - I'll get over it eventually. Just when you think everything is going well, this game kicks you in the balls!!
Anyway, had my first bet since the news - Tara Point at 20/1 in the Mare's
FM have you heard any update on Tara Point - I'd backed her last year for the novice races as heard she was considered Nicholls best novice prior to injury. She would be really interesting in this on her form trouncing A field at Taunton and on her run behind Vyta du Roc and Shantou Bob at Sandown. Also won both times first time out - just nervous of backing something when not sure of its current well being .
She goes straight to Cheltenham without a run, is what I've been told. She was a classy novice and may just give VVM something to think about if retaining her ability.

Thanks FM - hopefully Nicholls will start issuing updates on his Cheltenham team soon and I'm planning to go to the Haydock preview which has Marten Julian there - he's friendly with Reg Geffen who owns it so might have some insight ! If I hear owt I'll let you know.
