O'Leary quoted as ""I would treasure any Grade One in Cheltenham equally. I'll certainly have something in the Ryanair, maybe one or two the way it's panning out, and hopefully two or three in the Gold Cup." - still think road to riches is a shout in this with the 2 Dons heading to the good cup - RTR would have a massive chance in this even if Vautour turned up and O'Leary just wants Grade 1s

The difference in opinions is fascinating, I struggle to understand why Ricci would be reluctant to make Ruby choose between his and another owner but is happy to give him that same conundrum over two of his own, is there a special relationship that I'm unaware of because his horses will certainly clash with other Mullins runners at the fez in most races so why do the owners of UDS merit special consideration. I found the idea that RTR is a good shout in the Ryanair with or without Vautour interesting too, that's the biggest benefit of this forum to me, it makes you rethink your own belief because in my view RTR's strength is staying and would have more chance of beating Vautour in the GC, but all opinions are valid until proven otherwise.
Regarding O'Leary's view on grade 1's I think he has to say that because the Ryanair is his race.

RTR won his PTP over 3 miles and has form of 1861133 over 3 miles or more.

His form at shorter distances is 1113P412121. Marginally better over shorter trips ?

Carberry wont be available to ride him now either. Could that sway them towards Ryanair where Cooper would surely pick him ?

I think your missing the point Mr Mcg, UDS owners dont get special consideration, they just happen to own Mullins no 1 2m chaser at the moment and their horse is obviously been targeted at the no 1 chase in the the calender.Ricci wants Ruby to ride his horses and at the end of the day will bow to Rubys judgement as to whichever of his Ruby chooses.Youve taken a flyer backing Vautour for the Champion Chase but if you listen to the connections Vautour only runs if UDS dosent.UDS optimum trip is 2m..Vautours is 2m 4 but his connections think theres every chance he'll stay the Gold Cuo distance. To be fair you thought Vautour was Arkle bound last year but having seen the way he won the JLT it didnt look a step back to 2m this year was the way to go and nobody connected to the horse thinks that either.

Mr McGoldrick - you're spot on its all about opinion and we probably won't know what run's where til much nearer the day. For me with any Gigginstown horse the only opinion that does matter will be O'Learys and if he believes like the current market that Poli & Cossack have twice the chance of RTR in the gold cup he could believe that he's better trying to win 2 grade 1s than putting those 3 eggs in the same basket, especially given the Ryanair is his race. For those reasons I think it worth a relatively small stake now on RTR in the Ryanair knowing he'll be nothing like that price if he runs. If he doesn't I lost a couple of quid but if he does I'd have to put shed loads on for the same return. Ante post is a gamble anyway but to me the current odds make it worth a punt !

Again that's an interesting point of view, but having crushed the opposition in the Supreme I would say Vautour is a match for anything over that distance to me it still seems that Ricci wants to give the UDS ownership group free reign, I personally don't think he would get Vautour off the bridle, but given Riccis reluctance to upset them he could end up with another Champagne Fever

No Ricci isnt given them free reign and next season he'll have a 2m chaser to put it up to UDS in Douvan thus leaving Vautour to mop up the Gold Cup which will happen if he stays or the Ryanair if its to be that race.

Personally I'm gutted that willie is running Vroum Vroum mag over hurdles at Ascot this Saturday with a view for the OLBG or world hurdle at the festival, really thought the ryan air would be her target and would love to know the reason they have reverted her to hurdling now as she was doing well enough over fences, and I can't believe gigginstown are dropping last years gold cup 3rd road to riches into this, he is a much better chance than don poli in the gold cup and it should be the don in the ryan air not RTR

The reason gjt is, because Annie had her setback, VVM switched to hurdles as back up incase Annie never made it for the mares. For me now it looks as if Annie is on track for that race again so VVM goes World Hurdle with the allowance she gets its probably the right move since shes not really been tested in chases against top class opppsition.Mullins has said he wudnt run Annie in the World Hurdle without a prep run so with VVM been on the go this season it looks shes heading there now.I never seen this one coming at the start of the season and again it highlights the dangers of guessing which race these horses are going to go for unless the connections have stated what the target is in advance but then with Wullie it a hard task to second guess him!

Sorry to harp on but there just seems to be punters that believe Vautour is Gold cup bound. Given that many are nrnb the bookies are taking a huge chance offering 7/1, this suggests to me they either think he's going elsewhere or that he is less likely to win than several others. The least number of people believe he's QM bound but PP, who are thought to have the most insight into the stable, are only 9/4 for that race, generally evs to 6/4 for this. Just a point of observation but surely worth considering.

It's looking most certain O'Leary will wait to see how the ground is before deciding which race RTR will run in. Good/soft=GC or soft=Ryanair.

UDS needs to perform next time or Vautour will end up in Queen Mother. Do we all agree on that ?
