Mullins, meanwhile, has spoken in glowing terms about Bordini and unusually he already looks his main contender for the Cheltenham Bumper.

Mullins usually has a handful of contenders for the Festival race he has dominated down the years and it is usually a conundrum for punters choosing the pick of his crop.

However, the four four-year-old has already won twice impressively and the normally cautious Mullins had no hesitation in nominating him as his best this year.

"Bordini would certainly be the best of the bumper horses we've run this season," said Mullins.

"He'd been catching my eye all autumn and, while we have a nice team of bumper horses this season, they'll have to go to catch up with him.

"He compares with anything we've had before and what he shows us at home he does on the racetrack."

Cheltenham’s still a long way off and I don’t want to tempt fate, but Dynaste and Kings Palace are bang up there with the horses I’m looking forward to riding at the Festival. The Giant Bolster is another one and he seems well. This is his time of year. We have Moon Racer going for the bumper. There are lots of nice horses who might end up there. We’ve got a nice clutch of novices and juveniles and now the entries are starting to come out you begin to get a picture of the races but you can’t get too carried away. There is still two months to go. There’s no point in counting your chickens. At this time last year if you’d told me I was going to win three races at the Festival I would only really have believed in Dynaste of the three at this stage. As this stage I would have guessed that the other two would have been The Liquidator and Kings Palace probably, not Western Warhorse and Ballynagour. That sums up Cheltenham really. The main priority is just to get the horses there and see what happens.

It is not too common an occurrence for the offspring of Classic winners to enter the jumping fray, but John Ferguson is never shy in seizing an opportunity and he has the very interesting High Bridge to play in a bumper before too long.

A son of the German star sire Monsun, his dam is 2001 1000 Guineas winner Ameerat. Clearly too backward to carry the royal blue of Godolphin on the level - for the time being at least - he is reported to have pleased in his preparatory work and is a name to bear in mind for future reference.

A piece about the favourite

The dogs in the street have been barking about Au Quart De Tour for over 10 months now and he finally makes his racecourse debut in the final race on a decent Sunday card at Fairyhouse.

The exciting son of Robin Des Champs was sent off a short-priced favourite when making his point-to-point debut for Pat Doyle at Dromahane last April and duly won in the style you’d expect of an odds-on shot.

He claimed victory by a very comfortable five lengths in the hands of Derek O’Connor and was subsequently sold to Rich Ricci and Willie Mullins.

He beat Globalisation at Dromahane and was value for much more than his five-length win.

Despite the fact that none of the other nine runners in the race have won since, Globalisation was one who did frank the form by taking an Aintree bumper on his next start in the colours of JP McManus.

To be fair, Au Quart De Tour was in a league of his own at Dromahane anyway and could only beat what was put in front of him - he could not possibly have been any more impressive.

The fact that he is now in the care of Willie Mullins is deeply significant for Mullins has handled the top-class Quevega, Sir Des Champs and Vautour who also just happen to be the three best horses sired by Robin Des Champs.

Au Quart De Tour could be the next star for the trainer/stallion combination if his recent homework is anything to go by as he has reputedly been putting previous winners to bed at home in the same manner with which he dispatched Globalisation last April.

O’Connor was quickly on the mark when Pat Doyle’s newcomer Au Quart De Tour obliged in impressive fashion in the first division of the four-year-old maiden. The French bred son of Robin De Champs went to the front four out and it was crystal clear that he was toying with his rivals on the run to the final fence. He then forged clear to score with any amount in hand when denying Globalisation by five lengths. The Walter Connors-owned Au Quart De Tour is now likely to be sold.

After race at Fairyhouse Sun, 11th Jan, 2015 (1st) He came to us with a big reputation but was not showing anything until he did a nice bit of work early this week. So to do that off what looked a slow pace, I'm very happy with him. W P Mullins

Managed to get on Au Quart De Tour at 16's before his race on Sunday. Which he won nicely even though slow pace.

Gigginstown unleash another of there horses tommorrow in Potters Point in the bumper in Ireland, a horse noted to follow by some of the point to point experts after its only run when 2nd, one of them said it could well end up as fav for the Cheltenham Bumper. Wether they decide to go there or miss it tommorrows viewing will be of interes anyway
