Yes and the previous years Arkle runners generally have a great record in the next seasons Champion Chase.

          • How does this 'Value Rater' system work?

Is there some form of formula used, or is it just something that Matt Mitter has devised himself?

AC: Sprinter Sacre ran well at Ascot. Some are being unfair to him.

PN : Dodging Bullets has gone under the radar. He is in the form of his life having won the Tingle Creek and Clarence House Chase. He has not been great in the spring before, but we have adapted his training slightly. To me he deserves to be favourite. It should not be done on sentiment but on form and that is my view.

PN : I think Mr Mole will run a big race. He dotted up last week after being left 15 lengths at the start. He has won four races on the trot and won ones that Master Minded did. I always thought he was good but it has taken a bit of convincing. AP (McCoy) didn't really like him at first but he has got confidence with him now and is on a roll. I think he has the more natural ability, whereas Dodging Bullets is the more hardened and tougher horse.

BO: Champagne Fever won today & could drop back to the Champion Chase, likes Cheltenham. Simply Ned a longer-priced option.

                • Sire De Grugy could make a surprise trip to Chepstow next Saturday as trainer Gary Moore tries to bring him to peak fitness for his defence of the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
The nine-year-old will be entered in a two-mile-and-half-a-furlong chase at the Welsh venue as Moore looks to put Game Spirit Chase disappointment behind him.

Sire De Grugy unshipped jockey Jamie Moore at Newbury on his seasonal bow and connections feel he could benefit from another spin before next month's showpiece meeting.

The trainer told his Betway blog: "I've been talking things through with Jamie and he'll definitely be given an entry in the morning for Chepstow on Saturday. We'll work him again on Tuesday and if he goes well, I think it's more than likely that he'll run.

"The 'match practice' will help both his confidence and ours! Hopefully Chepstow will see him get his season back on track and then we'll head to Cheltenham for the Betway Champion Chase."

Moore reports his charge to be in fine form at home despite his Newbury fall, but felt his jumping was not up to his usual standard that day.

"He's come out of last week's Newbury spill really well and did a nice bit of work yesterday. We were disappointed with what he showed in the Game Spirit as he didn't jump with his usual confidence or conviction," he said.

"In fact, he did something similar when he ran below par at Aintree as a novice after a big break. He blew up that day approaching three out and again didn't jump with his usual zest.

"We got him back on track straight away after that run by taking him to Stratford a couple of weeks later and we are thinking of doing something similar."

                      • Even Arkle arguably the best steeplechaser ever lived or at least time forms highest rated horse was never himself after his injury and retired soon after. Now can Sprinter or SDG make it back to the top?

Could be judgement day for either of them if they throw in a bad run. I hope SS runs well.

I am in dread of Sprinter Sacre not making it there. It is a fascinating festival with loads of open betting heats but lacks a real star.

The Fly and Sprinter are the only ones with real wow quality IMO.

Both backable prices this time too.

Didn't Arkle break his leg and spend six months suspended in a sling? I think the problem they've had with Sprinter is more of a concern than the one with SDG, his was an over-reach wasn't it, so it may just be a lack of time that is their main problem, but a heart problem will surely affect the performance given the organ's importance when it comes to running and stamina. I hope he does come back and be as good as ever but I have to say I have my doubts.
