The Victor Chandler Chase run at Ascot in mid January over 2m 1f is a Grade 1 and has been run under the present conditions since 2008. Prior to that the race was run as a handicap over 2 miles.
Five horses have won this race and the Queen Mother Champion Chase in the same season. They were Viking Flagship (1994), Call Equiname (1999), Master Minded (2009) and Sprinter Sacre (2013) and Sire de Grugy (2014) . Well Chief and Desert Orchid also feature on the roll of honour. The runner up in 2012 Finians Rainbow went on to win that years Champion Chase. Mick Fitzgerald has been the most successful jockey in th history of the race with three wins (Big Matt 1996, Isio 2004, Tysou 2006). Nicky Henderson have both trained five winners of the race.
