The key to becoming the Leading Flat or National Hunt Jockey at the Galway Races seems to be to an association with trainer Dermot Weld !
Pat Smullen has been top flat jockey at the Galway Races for the past five seasons.
Robbie McNamara’s eligibility to ride in NH bumpers has helped him win the top National Hunt jockey award for two of the past three years. Ruby Walsh has missed this meeting on a couple of occasions through injury in recent years but is likely to be McNamara’s main challenger for that prize in 2012.
