King George VI Chase Trends
Starting Price: There have been just three winners priced at 10-1 or more in the last 20 years. The last was 25-1 winner Edredon Bleu in 2002.
Fate of the Favourite: There were six winning favourites in succession from 2004-2009 and 11 from the last 20 renewals. 9 of the last 10 favourites have made the first three.
Multiple Winners: Long Run backers will be encouraged by presence of several multiple winners in the Roll of Honour. One Man, See More Business, Kicking King and Kauto Star all won more than one renewal since 2002. See More Business and Kauto Star both regained it after losing it during this period.
Two milers taking a trip: One Man and Edredon Bleu both succeeded in the King George VI Chase and the Queen Mother Champion Chase during the last 15 years. Previous Champion Chase winners Sizing Europe and Finian’s Rainbow are possibles for the 2012.
A previous win over 3 miles or more is important: The 11-year-old Edredon Bleu, the six-year-old Kicking King (like Sizing Europe, runner-up in the JNWine.com Chase) and Algan are the only three horses who have won the King George in the last 25 years who hadn’t previously won over the trip.
Official Rating: The last 10 winners have been officially rated 159+.
Last time out: The last 20 winners all ran between 19 and 63 days beforehand. Riverside Theatre will be tackling the race after a break of 258 days.
