There were 39 entries at the initial entry stage for the Ryanair Chase and getting a betting edge might partly involve working out which of these will line up for the race on Thursday March 14th 2013. We would expect the final field to whittle down to about a third of the initial entry.
12 lined up in 2012 when Riverside Theatre under an inspired Barry Geraghty denied Tony McCoy and Albertas Run a third win in the race. Both horses are included in the initial 39 but have the the Gold Cup as an alternative. In all 18 of the field are also entered in the Gold Cup and 9 hold entries in the Champion Chase. The high profile trio of Flemenstar, Finians Rainbow and Sizing Europe hold entries in all three races.
We would also expect a lot of the horses only holding entries in the Ryanair at present to have alternative targets ( handicaps etc.) in March.
